Cadillac CTS-V headed to UK to compete with BMW M5?

What? They aren't even in the same size class are they? I thought the CTS-V would be more on par with taking on the M3. Maybe the STS-V, but that's a stretch even.

The CTS is most definitely considered as in the 3 series class in Britain. Who says it competes with the 5?

From a size perspective it is larger than the 3 and smaller than the 5. The old CTS-V was always compared to the M5 here in the States.

I think that it will be a Formidable M5 Competitor, with far better looks.

Forget the CTS-V. The CTS with the direct injection engine is already good enough. I'd pay a little extra to get the NorthStar V8 though.

DaHarder, if you want a CTS-V just buy a used one in a year for 50% of the original price.

They are about the same size as the new CTS. I own one. Only fools think the CTS competes with BMW's 3Series and MB's CClass. Only from a price stand point. A friend of mine who owns an MB E350 and I agree that our cars are about the same size.

I hate most of the BMW owner, including some of my friends who own them. But the CTS-V to go head to head with the BMW M5, I Don't know.

BMW is known for making performance cars, so I don't it will be that easy. Not only that, isn't the next BMW M5 and M6 due anytime soon?

The next gen 5-Series is still at least 2 to 3 years off...

It is only a competition when the other party is aware of your presence and accepts the challenge.

In this case the CTS-V does not even make the shortlist for the Qualifying Heats, let alone make it to the Semi-Finals where it has to compete with E63s or RS6s or M5s

I really think it should go compete with GS460s and Jag XF Rs

The Power upgrade on the new M5 was prompted by the HP figures of the then Current RS6 & E55 Vehicles {Which BMW considers as Competitors}

CTS-V was not ever considered.

To be honest it does not even matter what we all think because more than likely we will all stick with our opinions unless we are told something specific by a BMW Test Driver or Engnineer.

What I know as a fact is that nobody I know or have met who is in the Market for a Hypersedan will even consider a Caddilac for their Garage or Collection.

So yes Caddilac will probably sell a few of these CTS-Vs, to the same people who buy Retro/Hot Rod Replica Vehicles at Barrett Jackson Auctions for over $300k and think they got a good deal, you have to love those Baby Boomers, willing to spend so much to Remember the past.

But dont for i sec think you will convince those who know how to really drive and those who know REAL QUALITY and expect it to go Purchase a CTS-V over an M5 or E63 or RS4.

I don't know how we Americans do it but somehow, every American car has a very box like side profile that just doesn't look good to me. This car included. I wish the people over at Cad could find a way to do something to change that trend.

Cadillac current has some of the most brand recognizable vehicles on the road with their arts/science design theme.

At least it doesn't look like a deformed last-gen Honda Civic with oddly pinched taillights like a certain German-made compact sport sedan.

Mate, yes it true, I remember reading an article up here on autospie.com, that the new CTS-V will have 570+ hp.

But the two month ago, I think BMW is saying they are upgrading the M5 and M6 to 550hp themselve. And to make it worse, isn't the new M5 and M6 dues anytime soon?

The next M5 won't hit the road until 2010/2011...

i personally love the styling of the CTS...its aggressive and stylish, but i havent been able to test drive one as yet to make my opinion warranted. the interior is a millions time better than the last in the pix i've seen... hopefully in the next couple weeks i can find the time to review one.

good job by GM on the CTS...one thing that bothers me is all the GM vehicles having that little square GM symbol on their front doors? i dont care for it, and it makes it look very tacky

First Cadillac will have to go through the gauntlet of biased UK reviewers and try to win over the public with some out standing ad campaigns! Hopefully a positive review here and there. The new CTS is a great car and may overcome skeptics. Cadillac just has to continue to improve to gain back market share.

It is very difficult for any car company to compete with MB and BMW. MB and BMW are exclusively luxo/sport car makers. Cadillac, Lexus, and Audi are part of a larger company that produces economy cars, mass production vehicles which reflects to its Luxo division. Even though they are all very good offerings, with Cadillac finally stepping up, they do not have that aura of exclusivity that MB and BMW possess.

The Z4 is Ugly and BMW interiors are quite boring {7-Series excluded}, That said i do think they have a certain minimalist look to it that will appeal to certain drivers who despise cluttered Dashboards.

I am not a brand snob, far from it when i am in the USA i do my best to Rent or Test Drive the new vwhicles on the market. The Previous Gen CTS was rubbish when i drove it in LA, the LS was nice and powerful but i disliked the Faux Leather that was scattered all over the interior. I never made any comments about Japanese Vehicles. M

My statement is that i find it incredulous that the CTS will go from not even winnig a comp with 3-series BMW and C-class MB and G35 infinity to the CTS-V being able to comp with the M5 or E63 or RS6, if you think that is being a Brand Snob then more power to you.
