With all these versions/packages, isn't the price of this little puppy going to push dangerously close to that of the 3-series?

Considering people are eating up Speed3s and WRXs for 30K with less power and without the great badge, I certainly think it's worth at least that much.

Ditto that, but there's no way that BMW will price the 135i the same as a 335i coupe. That's just 1-series suicide. I imagine 3-5K less.

The speed3 completely loaded is only 26,000. That's with Nav. You can get the sport model for 22-23k.

Porsche Boxster is $42K. That's right. It's a Porsche, not a BMW.

The Mazda Speed 3 is $24,000, not $30,000. Car and Driver, as well as many other magazines, called the Mazda Speed 3 the "deal of the century."

The Porsche Boxster is standard with nothing... but strangely, I think I'd take a base Boxster over a loaded one. It appeals. Or a base Carrera 2... that would be grand indeed.

Good luck trying to find one for that much. Around here, they're going 5K over sticker. They're all pdresold before they hit the lot or sold within hours. Go ahead and ask me how I know... Some deal of the century. Ebay you ask? Just go peruse for a bit... Did you find any? lol

...and they're selling so fast because they are the deal of the century...you cant buy performance and refinement at the price anywhere else.

VW R32. That's high-performance and very refined, and it's about the same price; they're just very different buyers.

Whoops, scratch that, the R32 is $32K. But it's gorgeous. I would take it over an A3 3.2... I think.

I agree with you on the Porsches. The people who are true sports car enthusiasts usually like to purchase Porsches with the least amount of options to

1) Keep the weight down for an increase in performance
2) For good resale value down the road.

Some here talk about wanting the 1 series because it is a truer sports car/sport luxury car than the 3 series. But if you're adding powered everything to the car, that's just more dead weight, rendering it less effective as a sports car.
