It looks like some sort of mish-mash Subaru Tribeca, BMW X3, Lexus GX... it's okay, but not at all distinctive.

Kia is there to steal marketshare from the likes of Honda, Toyota and Hyundai mostly. And you have to give them credit for coming a long way. They were unheard of when the first Kia Sportage came out, now the new ones I see everywhere. I even got one as a rental. It had a V6, big interior and was fairly comfortable, and it was priced under 25k. But for me the steering was blah and the 2.7L V6 seemed underpowered even for that small car.

Either way, they are hitting their markets with bullseyes and I really doubt they will be cross shopped with MB. But neither will a Hyundai and they advertised teh Veracruz against the Lexus RX and Land Rover. The whole point was to show what they offered vs. the luxury guys and the price point. To me the Hyundai Veracruz vs. Land Rover and Lexus ads were hysterical to watch. And for someone with a 30k max purse who needs this type of vehicle, it is very appealing to know it is like a MB in terms of size, power, and amenities.

zairnaim beat me to it. Kia isn't after Hyundai. Hyundai will be moving upmarket to compete with high-level Toyotas and entry-level Lexuses; Kia is going to be the new volume brand.
