2008 Ford Focus officially revealed

The 2008 Ford Focus has finally been revealed! Beside the further improved design the American automaker offers a wide offer of diesel and petrol engines. Ford offers five petrol engines: 1.4 litre (80 bhp), 1.6 litre (100 and 115 bhp), 1.8 litre (125 bhp), 2.0 litre (145 bhp) and of course the 225 bhp engine found in the Focus ST. Also the diesel engine is offered in 3 versions: 1.6 litre TDCi (90 and 109 bhp), 1.8 litre TDCi (115 bhp) and the 2.0 litre (110 and 136 bhp).

Althought the other car manufacturers chosen to make just a facelift to their cars Ford wanted to make something different and with the help of its design team changed the entire look of the car. Striking are the new head lamps that enter in the new design line brought by the new Mondeo. Quality improvements were also brought at the interior due to the fact that Ford decided to improve the quality of the materials. Also the possibility of connecting your iPod or you Mp3 Player was added to this new model.

When Ford gets smart and follows GMs new model where they import european cars or have them built here, such as their Saturn lineup being mostly Opels, then they will see an increase in share. Until then, kudos to GM for finally selling some appealing cars like the new Malibu and Saturn VUE and Pontiac G8. Thumbs down to Ford for giving us the Fusion instead of the European Mondeo. Seems only Mazda and Volvo are making money these days.

The Focus ST is a European model btw. They are not offering that engine here in the states, it is strictly a poor redesign on the same old frame with ho hum engines and gaudy plastic. They missed the mark big time against Civic, Corolla. Heck even Hyundai is starting to look better as an alternative.

I don't get it. GM sells Opels in Mexico..and Mexico gets the "euro" Focus..go over the border and buy your euro Foucs while the dollar is worth 11 pesos.

While commuting to work I ride right by the local Ford dealer. The other day they had a 2008 Focus (US model) sitting there and all I could think is, this is the most uninspiring car I have EVER seen.

The one we had was more stylish albeit outdated. I don't get why they are settling for taking some of the market instead of going for the benchmark. Even if they didn't surpass Toyota and Honda, they would have at least been in competition and given consumers something else to consider.

Think of the IS-F. It may not be the class leader, but it draws people to the name who may have never considered a Lexus in the past.

Someone at Ford told me that Mullaly is most possibly going to bring the Euro Focus in a couple years and this one is just to keep some sales. Why do u think they didnt fully redesign it. I hope it is true because I think the smaller cars are easier to bring compared to the Mondeo. The Fusion is very well competitive all that needs to be done is gie it more interesting features like the mondeo with better engines n more stylish interior

No, the Fusion should be scrapped. The Mondeo is inherently superior and any money Ford loses in bringing it here will be recouped by its stellar sales and profitability--and then some.

oh and the new GM models have been having some problems lately especially the crossovers with more problems than usual. And for Malibu it is really awkward looking with everything made in china so the reliability will probably be low.

The Lambdas are already improved for '08. Nice try.

GM is simply much more progressive than Ford at this point. Sorry, but it's true. I say this from a perspective where I don't own either--so it is truly unbiased.

I had a Focus when I graduated from school in 1999, nice design then. Why is it the same design almost 10 years later. Look at the Civic, Altima, Sentra do they look like the same car from 10 years ago?

Oh yeah my Focus crapped out on me at 88,193 miles(I wrote it down and took a polaroid). Even though it was babied, I mean babied oil changes like clockwork, waxed twice a month, freeway miles only. Every month I was getting a recall notice from Ford. Finally it gave out in 2003. I paid $1500 to get it fixed as best as I could. As soon as I picked it up from the mechanic, I drove 2 miles to the nearest Honda dealership and traded it in for a brand new Civic.

What an ordeal for a 21y.o. to just finish paying off a car to have it go completely kaput on you. If it were not for my high income at 21y.o. I would have been stuck putting $1400 every few months into a 4y.o. car!! That ordeal has burned me towards American cars.
