Pump Prices Expected To Jump 20 Cents In The Next 2-3 Weeks

We should be drillin' in Alaska.

The USA needs to get off of foreign oil ;)

The American population needs to demand more fuel efficient cars. People who own big trucks (not meant for work) and SUV's really have no basis on complaining.

If we drilled Alaska and Texas we could be literally independent from foreign oil sources. It would also create jobs and productivity with the development of new refineries in the states.

Not to mention the $$$ saved from not having to import our own oil deemed by OPEC prices means that we can take that savings and invest in alternative energies such as wind, water, solar like they are doing in Europe. This would enable us to be somewhat supplemental. Using our own oil resources to cut costs of importing, then funneling dollars to alternative energy and fuel sources, and eventually we would end up being a very clean nation similar to some European ones.

Of course this is general politics I am speaking but it appeases almost everyone. And in 20-50 years the US would become one of the cleanest energy using nations in the world by making the switch to alternative.

And why is there opposition to this plan?

One thing that I read sometime ago is that Alaskan crude is a very high sulfer type of crude. The refinery costs to bring the sulpher level down to a point that is accepptable to the EPA current levels would be cost prohibitive . It is better to put this crude on the world market for countries that do not have the same sulpher level that our country mandates . The fact that we are selling this oil on the world market makes a point that this country is an oil producer and not a total consumer

Opec does not set that oil prices , we do ,or should I say our freindly oil companies , because we are the biggest consumer

Oh not to mention that when Hydrogen cars start coming out in 09-10, the infrastructure is going to be fully supported by the auto industry, meaning you would have Honda, GM, etc. filling stations instead of the Sunoco and Mobil. Thus putting a big dent if it takes off like it is supposed to in the oil industry.

The question is, will they sell beer at these Honda, GM, etc. filling stations? :)

I think it also has to do with the weak USD.

To all those saying "let's drill in the US!" As good as that sounds it too will only be a short term solution. We need to develop more efficient cars and alternative methods so when the foreign sources run out and we have no choice but to drill in our protected areas we will have them for that much longer.

If we go for it now we'll just run out and then be stuck in a worse situation.

Oil is still not extinct as far as 30-40 years away, If it's 4 dollars now, 10 years from now its going to be 10-15 a gallon, By then the sky car will be in my garage, Foreign fuel by the barrel is cheap, besides the middle east, where the oil prices by the barrel are raised due to obvious non-lightenment from our government.
But all in all it means nothing, to some of us who can afford even driving a 1 mpg car... Me :)

I think the world oil pricing dept. ( this country ) ran the crude up strong and fast wants to make sure that the retail price does not drop down to 1.99 $ like it did about a year ago

We need to bring these diesel engines (like the BMW 120D and 123D)over.

I say bring on the $13/gal gasoline at the pumps. Will it change the attitude of soccer moms who have to have a V10 Excursion, Escalade to drop off little Timmy. Instead of me complaining, I will be investing in oil companies and the ancillary companies that provide support to BIG OIL.

I really don't understand people that say they NEED a huge Suburban for the kids when 90% of the time its only a single person driving the car. I think you can drop your kids off just fine in a Mazda 6 wagon with room in the back for groceries and whatever.

more than a year ago, two of my friends who had gotten hybrids said they wished gas was TEN BUCKS a gallon. so there'd be less idiots driving monster SUVs and PU trucks with empty beds 95% of the time.

at the rate we're going, and the way the dollar is going, we may well see $15/gal within 5 years or so.

so who's eyeing that new mongoose bike?

if/when it starts to hurt driving my 40 mpg toyota, i'll switch to my 50 mpg honda or 60 mpg kawasaki! ;)

it'll be GREAT driving with 80% less vehicles clogging the roads!
