LA Auto Show: Honda FCX Clarity - the hottest ‘green’ car in LA (live images)

Honda today unveiled the FCX Clarity fuel cell car at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and announced plans to begin limited retail marketing of the vehicle in summer of 2008. The Honda FCX Clarity is a zero-emission, hydrogen-powered fuel car built on Honda’s new V Flow fuel cell platform.

So what are the green numbers you ask? The Honda FCX Clarity will get a combined fuel-economy of 68mpg with a vehicle range of up to 270 miles.

Full details of the production and limited retail sales will be announced closer to launch but current plans consist of a three-year lease term with a price of $600 per month, including maintenance and collision insurance.

I don't know if that's true, but THAT would be cool. No more trips to the gas station?

Not a good car for road trips, but if you lived in LA -- and could easily get hydrogen -- it sounds like a real option for some people

Honda HAS introduced a home hydrogen generation system that uses natural gas, and is working on a system that uses solar panels (Honda recently went into the solar panel manufacturing business). I know of no other carmaker that is actually building infrastructure as well as the car for a hydrogen future...that's pretty impressive. Will it be widely available at first, no, but at least Honda is trying to DO something...

The car is said to drive like a normal car, so I guess you could forget it uses hydrogen and get stranded halfway to Vegas...please tell me if this ever happens, I would love to laugh at that idiot :-)
