Toyota Predicits Slow Growth For US Sales in 2008
Top analysts are predicting a downturn in US auto sales not seen in fifteen years. Industry-wide sales are expected to remain flat or decrease slightly - but Toyota says it sees growth next year. Regardless of how Toyota fares, a downturn in the U.S. market is hard on the entire auto industry, since it’s the single biggest market in the world.

A weakening dollar and the sub-prime mortgage troubles in the U.S. are the main contributors to the pessimistic auto sales predictions made by three top industry analysts. The most pessimistic predictions see total auto sales falling to just 14.5 million in 2008, reports Reuters - the lowest level since 1993, at the tail end of the last major economic recession. Other, slightly less pessimistic predictions still see a decrease in U.S. sales of three to five percent, with total sales to fall to around 15.5 million vehicles.

"Toyota Predicits Slow Growth For US Sales in 2008"

Maybe it's right about US

but in the rest of the world (Asia and Africa especially) Toyota will possibly see the biggest rise in sales as the best selling car has arrived. The 2008 Toyota Corolla and even 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser.

On a different note here in UAE, there is 3 months waiting list for The All New Corolla and 2 months for the LC.

I think the same is true for other Middle East countries and rest of Asia (about New Corolla)

you may well be right. then GM will be displaced by toyota as #1 GLOBALLY for QUITE awhile.

it's ONLY gm being #1 in the u.s., that made them #1 globally. as the u.s. market shrinks, so will gm's dominance.

Obvious with the recession fears lingering.

interestingly, despite the lower volume of sales nationally, projections are that godzilla toyota will CONTINUE TO INCREASE its market share.

Stagnating sales + smaller market = bigger market share. That's simple economics.
