I bought a Lexus IS this Feb. and got a great discount. The easiest way to buy a new car at discount is as follows:
Do it only on the phone. Drive by the dealer when they're closed and see if a vehicle you like is on the lot, if it is you're in luck.
Call the dealer and say you've got a deal in a close by city for $XXX for a car like the one on the lot, "if you can match their price, we've got a deal". Make sure you say this is the "out-the-door" price with only title, tax, and license fees to be added, that way you won't get hit with the $400 "prep charge" at the end of the deal in the finance office.
To find the price you should ask for, check Edmunds or other auto blogs to find out what good deals people are getting.

That may work on some luxury cars but not on all. In feb on this year, try and do that on a 3-series coupe and it wouldnt have worked. It works on slow selling vehicles. If I have a customer who calls and tries that, I will run a locate to see if that exact other car exists. If it doesnt then I know that potential buyer is lying, therefore that advantage you may think you have in getting $xxx price is lost. It comes to supply and demand. always does and always will

In the NY Times Sunday auto section the past few weeks, the 'Audi of Manhattan' dealership had advertised $10,000 off the 2007 A8's (probably their stock cars). Anybody see that in their area also?

They're getting rid of them, because the '08 is already out.

That's interesting, though, and strange. I've never seen that kind of discount on a luxury sedan.

But it's relative to the price...its about a 12-15% discount, which, on a 20,000 Midsize sedan, is only a 2,000-3,000 discount...not too much.

And I ALWAYS see Rovers with year end deals...

every dealer has year end deals to get rid of stock. once the new year model is available, you're almost guranteed to walk away with a good deal. the delaers don't want -07's on the lot when the -08's are out.

like 995 said, it's best to check around and search for other consumers purchases before making your offer to the dealer.

The best deals are the dealers with the cash back bonuses. If you are looking for an expensive luxury car, like an A8 sedan and $1000 is going to make or break the deal, you are too cheap of a bastard to buy the car and should get the hell out of the dealership.

And BMW995, why would you want some one to match a deal? Wouldnt you want them to beat it? If it is the same car, I would ask you, "why you didnt buy that car originally"? I would already know the answer, your scenario doesnt exist!! You have to be smarter than that.

LOL, I agree.

7 out of the 10 listed are large SUV/Truck vehicles...

I can see these kinds of deals continuing for quite some time given the projected rise in gas prices...
