Always a favorite car-don't need to change much for this automotive icon. I see the SLR influence in this design - a good thing.

I saw this same mule driving around SFO. Drove real close for a few blocks, but couldnt make out many new design changes. The car is pretty perfect to begin with. The drivers had no problem with me snapping shots, even smiling as I snapped the interior, so they obviouly knew they werent hiding much.

About the most telling thing here is that Mercedes seems intent on destroying the visually distinctive dual-oval 'face' they've so successfully nurtured, for the much less visually appealing headlights of the current CLS-Class, otherwise...

It's much the same.

Mercedes goes through design philosophy chnages every year. Some people also missed the squared off headlight look, or the stacked headlights of the w108 w114 and Pagoda SL.

All new Mercedes-Benz autos are evolving nicely. I highly doubt this one will be an exception.

I drive a 05 SL, I really can't fault it, I don't think they should move towards a CL front headlight system and grill, anyway can't wait to trade up.

I like those exhausts! LEDs looks cool too, then again Mercedes already had leds on the S-class back in 98 or so

I know that Mercedes SL has been an automotive icon since the 60s, but i don't really like the current design, does not look elegant enough. I like the design of the Jaguar XK much more, much more classy and sublime. And if XKRR is introduced, which may produce over 500 BHP, then i think that even others might be interested in the XK more than the SL, because hardly anyone can disagree with me in this, the XK is way more touching to your heart than the current SL.

Compared to Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar is garbage and I think MOST people will agree with me on that. Jaguar has struggled since the 80s with huge electronic and quality problems, to make it worse Ford has ruined the image of the iconic british sports car to the point where its sales are struggling.

Everyone has a right to an opinion and own preferences, but I'll take my SL over any Jaguar, thank you.

I have to admit that the SL is aging and I would take an XKR over it, no questions asked...

But it's not a huge difference. I was in love with the SL500 when it came out in '03.

Not sure I like the front of this - I considered the CLS front headlamps slightly awkward as well (if you were to look at the headlamps on a stand-alone basis; the overall car, to me, is hands-down the most beautiful 4 door out there). Also, not sure if I like the hood treatment (a la C63)- feel like they make it look a bit tacky. LOVE the exhaust though. Was considering a 2005 SL (depreciation is huge on this particular vehicle), but think I will wait for the new one to come out(if it sucks, I'd be happy to get the older model; if it is nice, then the 2005 model will sink further in value).
