I'll take the S550 but only after the Audi A8L and without the overpriced AMG stuff. My second choice would be the CLS550 with standard equipment only. I am upset with Mercedes for providing LSD only as part of a very expensive package on the CLS. LSD should be standard on all RWD cars. It's a very cost-effective way to provide the safety of added winter traction.

With Audi's A8L I would not only get a Quattro system with a Torsen center differential but I would also get an aluminum body that will not rust out eventually.

rust? where do you live and how long would you keep it? You spend $100,000 on any car you shouldn't have to worry about rust until way after you've gotten rid of it.

Need4Speed, I live in Canada and most jurisdictions here use salt in the winter to melt snow on the road. Salt eats steel bodies alive and makes the car look like hell -- that is why I really like aluminum bodies. AWD or 4WD is a must for winter traction although I would be quite happy with LSD on a RWD car.

BTW, they sand the roads only in Edmonton (no salt) which is great. I think the aluminum-bodied Audi A8L is the kind of vehicle one can pass on to the next generation.

I got serious with this. I went to the company's website and "build and priced" some cars. here are my choices:
2008 Lexus RX400h AWD-Base MSRP* $42,580.00+ Package $7,001.00= $50,346.00+ shipping, ect. This would be the SUV for trips. And wifes car.

2008 Smart ForTwo Convertible-Base MSRP* $12,900.00+ Package $500.00= $13,400.00+ shipping, ect. I want this just for the novelty.

That leaves me with $53,746.00. I currently own a 2007 Mercedes S-Class AMG And a 2006 BMW X5
With the $53,746.00 I would get:

I would love to get the Jaguar XKR Portfolio, or Porsche 997 turbo, or Continental Flying Spur, or even the Nissan GTR. But to be frank if I had that much money, I will just get myself an ariel atom, and would spend the rest of the money in buying a sporty Jaguar XF supercharged. I would be able to use the ariel atom on the track and the XF can be used for everyday and long distance driving.

Well, if it's ONLY $100K (lol) I'll go w/ a Maserati GT. 6 Spd, Black. If not that, then either an Aston Martin Vantage, or the Jag XKR.

S8, loaded. I saw an updated 2008 S8 yesterday at the mall in Phantom Black, and it looked absolutely INCREDIBLE! I was blown away! The new wheels make a massive difference to what was already a gorgeous sedan last year.

Otherwise, I'd definitely look into an M5. When we picked up our X5 today I sat in the M5 in the showroom, and it had the extended leather in red. Very luxurious, but still sporty. Of course it also has that awesome engine.

So it's almost a dead heat, but the S8's elegance wins out.

not widely appreciated, it seems, is the fact that QUIETNESS is A GREAT and uncommon LUXURY. even more so in today's noisy, raucous world.

this is the first time i ever heard a comment on how quiet a GLOVEBOX could be! but that does reflect the lexus attention to detail.

i'm sure one of the appeals of the ls460hL, is that the already quiet v8 is NOT EVEN RUNNING when there is enuff juice for all-electric operation.

i've heard many a friends' prius pull away, in eerie TOTAL SILENCE. having a large, massive car like an LS600L do that, would be even more impressive!

If you actually had 100,000 to spend, would you not want to go for something that no one else had? Many people prove that money is no substitute for taste. Obviously, all the cars mentioned above are very good cars, but with 100,000 i'd definately want something with more exclusivity. Somebody said a '68 Corvette L89 big block rag-top. Surely theres very few of those around!!?? A Ferrari Dino, restored porsche 356 or 550 all would give you immense driving poleasure im sure, but give that little extra, somthing i never experienced until driving the 356. Even newer cars such as the Weismann or a Noble at least no one else will be in them.

Maybe i have a strong opinion, but if someone pulled up next to me in an SL AMG, and i was in a dino, we'd both be driving a lot of money, but i think he's be looking at mine rather than the other way round.

Probably get a MB or Lexus for the wife, she waffles between these 2 and cannot decide on a sedan or SUV. Then with what is leftover I will trade our 3 series and GMC Yukon in for a Chevy 2500 4x4 Crewcab with Duramax diesel and 6 spd tranny, hopefully enough money to get it fully loaded, if not still got 660 ft/lb of torque.

I already drive a nice sedan, an 01 BMW 740i Sport, so I would get a Mercedes-Benz G500 for snowboarding trips and save the rest for a couple of days' worth of gas. ;)

I would take the money and spend it to children in my town. It's unbelievable, but some of them won't have a warm and nice christmas evening with gifts and dinner. After that I'll think about expensive cars.
