Audi's new strategy for its RS models

Why would you want RWD in a performance Audi model when they are famous for their QUATTRO all wheel drive

There is no torque steer in the RS4 and R8.

I would say the R8 is THE best. Everyone wants one, for on reason: it's incredible. It makes everyone a professional driver.

Have heard the rumors of Audi moving in this direction. This confirmation is most appreciated.

Hopefully, they'll give us folks on this side of the pond the opportunity to special order the Avant version of the RS4 if they choose not to bring them here automatically. Also, I hope they are built to USA specs (E.g. Battery in rear not up to USA standards - as per some rumors). This way there would be no problems at US Customs when I order my version.

I'd like to have both the RS4 and RS6 parked amongst my existing fleet.

I've been waiting for this long overdue decision from Audi. Nice move.

irie, the "Battery in rear not up to USA standards" rumor is false, the E46 BMW's (my ex's 330i included) all had the battery in the rear and it is a US spec car.

jeff210, thanks for that info. I thought that rumor didn't make sense either. One of my vehicles is a BMW 5 series touring which has it's battery in the rear.

Glad to hear that apart from the battery issue which didn't make any sense to me the Avant RS's are US spec cars.

There are already Audi models with the battery in the rear, that is not the issue. The problem is the rear of the car would have to be redesigned to meet US crash standards since the A4/S4 avant has the battery in the engine compartment.

S models not good enough, the S models first launched in 1992 can not compete with BMW M power, S cars a waste of time, so much for short lived the S5, S4,S8,S6,S3

Larry, we all know that becoming the world's best selling premium brand will require niche cars such as the Mercedes CLS, the Audi A1, etc...

Audi's S cars may not match their BMW M counterparts, but they give Audi many more models and a nice base to develop the potent RS models.

The Audi TT-RS and R8-RS will be excellent additions to the Audi RS4, 580 horsepower RS6.

I can't wait for the RS5 and maybe even an RS7 based on the forthcoming A7 platform.

Technicly the first Audi S model was launched in 1969 with the Audi 100 Coupe S. After that the S1 rally car was launched in 1984 and after that in 1989 the Audi S2 went into production.

A diesel R8 in the US would be nice.

Both the M & RS's are good vehicles. I'd have them both in my fleet.

Are you aware how you've been highlighting for many months how scared you are of the RS vehicles? Why are you so troubled by them? Stop camoflaging!!!!

Take a breath. If you enjoy M cars wonderful. So do I. If you don't like RS's for whatever reason don't keep focusing on what you don't like.

That's the thing. You just said that... but no Audi fans openly say "RS4 will crush the M3!!!!" or anything stupid like that.

Take irie's advice. You can love M cars without talking about how much you hate S/RS cars. I'll just be over here, blissfully trying out both, while you deny yourself a great thing.

I think we all saw this move coming from Audi as they seemed to have, & are holding back on going all out on future S models, for example the next-gen S4 won't likely see an increase in HP & the S5’s power has been kept a fair distance under the 400hp mark.

I see Audi taking more of an AMG approach with the RS line-up for the future, as mentioned will likely see a Q7 RS variant...very cool.

Also one question, will the TT get an S model as well or just an RS model?
