Corvette ZR-1 engine pics break cover: 650HP
The ZR-1 has been spotted in near-production trim turning hot laps at Laguna Seca. Power figures have been public knowledge for months. But the monster under the bulging hood has so far stayed hidden - until now.

The photos include up-close and personal shots of the intercooler, which is of the air-to-water variety, and the supercharger/intercooler stack, as well as the engine itself.

GM will definitely need more than 600hp to out do the new Dodge Viper SRT10.

Keep in mind, some recently published head to head battles between the Z06 and the new Viper were almost neck and neck with the Viper winning on the narrowest of margin. In fact it is almost a coin flip so as long as the ZR 1 gets traction, it should be noticeably quicker than the new Viper.

Vipers have lost their appeal since the redesign. The original was sexy and smooth looking. The new one looks too blended in with today's autos, nothing flashy. The Vette has always been a sex machine.

The guy who designed the new Viper designed Corollas for his whole career before coming to Dodge. Go figure.

Vipers are sweet, but nothing can really touch the Z06. For the money theres no better car. Sure the Viper is cooler, and any number of Ferrari's and Lambos are sexier, but seriously, just look at the numbers. This thing is going to be a demon.

I guess this will be only second to the Ford GT 600RE coming out from the US. Not bad. Now, the next logical step is to catch-up with the big boys from Germany(997 GT2) and Japan(R35 GT-R).
