It's Sad to see the honda Accord off this list. WHy Is The Caddy/Chevy/GMC Hybrid there? I know the Smart is important, i have an order for a converitble fortwo. Other than this that list is pretty satisfing... i guess.

The new Accord is a big disapointment to me in the looks department...bigger is not better.

I misinterpreted houstoncutie2000's comment as being about the Camry. I thought she had said "America's BEST-selling car," i.e. the Toyota Camry.

You say big changes for the auto industry, but the BMW 1 series has been out in other markets for a couple years now, and the GM hybrid monsters are not that impressive. The Jaguar XF, Infiniti EX35, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 and CTS would be most significant..the rest..not so much

if you read the article, you would know that these are cars NEW TO THE AMERICAN MARKET for 2008.

You are right, real world car by far will carry more impact than a few limited productions niche cars.

You're right...the most significant ones won't be the ones we aspire to, but rather the ones we actually end up driving.

Its called "PREFERENCE". If I were to purchase an SUV, it definitely wouldnt be a "MIDSIZE" one... Thats just my "PREFERENCE".

tahoe is a neat car, and decent looking. the escalade is just a pimped out tahoe/burban with that stupid bling-bling factor.

Yes-I agree with daharder and xdrive.The Cadillac CTS and Chevy Malibu are significant vehicles. Selling a huge vehicle and converting it to a hybrid to me is not that significant. I think when GM,Honda come out with their diesels passenger cars that WILL be significant. Further if they convert those to hybrid that will become VERY significant.The rest of the list I agree with.

i agree with all but the last three. I'm guessing they mean for America. However, the Accord should definitely be on the list. How could they discount one of the best selling cars? I am less thrilled about the Jag and the Lincoln. Both are nice, but I doubt will make much of an impact on the industry. Some others that maybe should have been on the list:

I'm not a fan of either of the 2 Fords, but these high volume sellers are definitely significant.

The new Toyota Sequoia is not significant..unless you mean significantly ugly. Just when you think the Dodge Durango will be replaced soon..the new Sequoia comes to take its place.

Dump the Escalade/Yukon/Tahoe and replace them with the Malibu.

The M3 may also be more significant than the 135i. Otherwise, I completely agree with the list.

I'm not sure. Each new M3 generation is heralded with great fanfare.

this list for the most part is right, except leaving out the malibu which really should have been #1, but alot of the cars i see people saying should have been i dont think should.....this list is about what cars will have the most impact on the auto industry, or their respective companies....the fortwo never really was a big seller Smarts future really depends on this new model being able to grab more attention globally than the outgoing model. The big suvs from GM hold a great importance those are GM's big profit vehicles but recent gas prices have hurt their appeal some(except the escalade which doesnt seem to be affected by gas prices oddly enough) they are also the first of their kind to get to market so it will test consumers perceptions, and whehter they will buy into the hybrid full size suv...The 1 series is far more significant than the M3 BMW has alot riding on the 1 series right now....the M3 not so much, it will have a following regardless, the 1 series is an attempt to pull customers in from different segments.

i feel like instead of put 1 series there, they should have chosen the M3.

it isnt best car its most significant.....the 1 series will either hurt BMW's image in the US, or accomplish what it set out to do, gain more customers, or both...the M3, isn't that signficant by comparison from a future standpoint....BMW has alot riding on the 1 series coupe in the US, the M3 is going to garnish a following regardless

to me this list is not bad

Some people CAN'T AFFORD more expensive BMWs. So they are able to buy a 1 Series, a stylish, exceedingly capable, frugal, relatively practical little coupe that does just about everything they need. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

It's definitely an American mentality. Small does not = cheap or bad. Great things come in small packages.

This isn't about desirability, it's about significance.

It just so happens that the CTS, R8, 1 Series, GT-R, C-Class, XF and EX35 are all both significant AND desirable. Nice.

Mercedes C-Class but no Audi A5/S5?

The C-Class sells more, and was due for a replacement, while the A5/S5 is a more exclusive car - thus, less of an impact.

Wow....not a single mention/rant about the IS-F not being on the list. That makes me happy for the future of this site.

Jaguar's XF will raise the bar quite a few notches, I've seen it and it looks superb in the flesh!!!

I would have liked to see the 911 GT2 in that list.

now that gm is back in the game big time. all tose sissies driving those sissy rice burning accords and camrys get to be laughed at again. now we should point and laugh.

I can not believe the GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook are not on the list. I agree with most of the list but thats just ridiculous that the Acadia is not on there.

i'm sorry. i'm not trying to make fun of japanese people with the sissy thing. let me explain what i'm saying. if you take a corvette z06 and a nissan 350z and stand behind them when they are running and rev them up. the z06 sound makes the nissan sound like a high reving sewing machine, not a sports car. i live in chicago il. and we here call a four cylinder engine with a big muffler a "sissy wantabe motor". the fact of the matter is it(the four cylinder) sounds like a sissy motor compared to a v8.even when turboed.i made a big mistake referring to japanese car owners as sissies.it's your money and you buy what ever you want. i know what i got to do.
