Toyota & GM might end up sharing hybrid systems

Toyota has already said they will want to produce a hybrid version of every car. It’s rumored though that the hybrid version of the Toyota Matrix would have a sibling in its Pontiac Vibe rival. Yes, that would mean a GM product with a Toyota hybrid system.

While this sounds rather strange as GM has been adamant that it would use its own hybrid system for its passenger cars, it makes sense...

I disagree. GM is currently the world's #1 automaker. Neither is in a significantly better position than the other. It's Ford that needs help.

most prognostications suggest gm WILL NOT be #1 much longer, IF it still is.

toyota has been overmodest in not tooting their own horn when they HAVE snuck past gm in a past quarter or two. it is in their interest to help gm stay ahead, if only to avoid negative PR and backlash from the rednecks.

so it would be perfectly in character if they did help gm.
