Chrysler to help VW build minivan for the U.S.

This will do nothing to increase VW's reliabilty image in the USA

VW will most surely regret this collaboration, GM is one thing, Chrysler is something else entirely

OK so this is definitely not the Microbus that would have been a huge hit, this is "just another" minivan.

I'll tell you what the US market could use, though. Take the exact interior size, seating and towing capacity of a large SUV, and translate it into a minivan. Use an adaptive suspension (that varies according to load) to lose the prehistoric live axle. Make it low to the ground and space-efficient. Make it aerodynamic, and with wide Z-rated tires. AWD optional. Make it, dare I say, fun to drive, with a reasonably powerful engine. Style to match, too.

Basically, give people no more excuses to drive an SUV. We all know the truck-based platform sucks, but nobody wants to step up to plate and design a modern platform that can tow, the old stereotypes keep going.

Oh, I guess it won't be VW, either. Man I wish had built that Microbus!

The last thing VW needs is a minivan, because people STILL don't want those. How about a mid-sized sedan with competitive pricing? i.e. not $35K Passat.

This mini-van will fit in Europe as a replacement for the aging Sharan.
But selling it in the US could work, what with higher gas prices and all, plus the possible availability of newer diesels which are perfectly suited to mini-vans.

I was in a diesel minivan (a Sharan incidentally) the other day (I don't travel diesel often), and boy was this thing quick!!! There was this huge surge mid range...overtaking was a breeze! Seriously, torque is amazing. Apparently only had 140 hp...would never have believed that. Felt like 200 plus.

They'v got the Touran too which is a tad smaller and allot better looking.

Well, VW's screwed. Should have looked to someone else for that, not the one brand that';s about to fail.

Hardly. In the US they're nobody but in Europe and Asia they're a force to be reckoned with.
