Lexus Recalls 34,400 GS and IS Vehicles

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA, Inc, will launch a Safety Recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The campaign involves approximately 34,400 2006 Lexus GS 300 (2WD and AWD), IS 250 (2WD and AWD) and IS 350 models. A possible crack may form over time in two specific fuel pipes in the engine compartment in the affected models. This condition only affects certain 2006 model year IS 250/350 and GS 300 vehicles.

The condition is due to high-stress areas that may have been created in two specific fuel pipes in the engine compartment during the manufacturing process. Combined with other factors such as the presence of corrosive agents in the fuel, a crack may form in the high-stress areas over time that could lead to fuel leakage. There has been one case reported with no related accidents.

TMS will notify owners of the involved vehicles with a Safety Recall notification via first class mail beginning in early December 2007. Newly designed fuel pipes will replace the affected fuel pipes at no charge to vehicle owners at any Lexus dealership.

Who cares about JD's INITIAL quality. Hell the real question is how it holds up once the warranty isnt in effect and service has to come out of pocket. Thats where Lexus wins you idiots. Not that I am in support of there drop in reliability recently. However, if BMW had this recall you guys would not be discounting them as you are lexus right now.

Again, if I had to choose which to keep off warranty, i would choose the lexus any day even tho I hate lexus.

AND... its funny how you BMW fans jump up and down and say service is free.. remember, nothing is free. Your paying for it somewhere and it appears to me its in the initial price of the car.

First, germanspies rarely posts when the Euro brands have recalls (i know i sound like a broken record here.) Second, time and again it has been proven that these recalls are not the indicator of quality/reliabilty. A recall (except when it is for Fords exploding, natch) is usually pro-active, came about from a small number of incidents, and is almost always isolated to one individual componet. Massive quality/reliability issues result from interior parts falling off, transmissions breaking every 20,000 miles, and the aforementioned explosions.

But keep gloating while the Toyota juggernaut keeps rolling.

1970toyotamarc and autopro never had to cough up 3 grand for a new 3.0V6 engine in a Camry/ES300/RX300/Avalon. Due to a design defect in the cylinder heads, oil sludge problems led to engine failure. Toyota customers fared worse than Lexus owners because they were summarily denied warranty compensation if they did not change the oil at the dealership. The Lexus people were compensated if they showed receipts proving timely oil changes within the mfrs. guidelines. They wound up in a class action lawsuit and lost. They then did a "silent" recall to save face, so to speak. "Oh What A Feeling"(sorry, I couldn't help it) some people were left with. They felt as about as good as someone driving an Echo in a Santa Anna crosswind at the top speed of approximately 80!!! Ha!

One last thing, the Japs were the last to come to the party in automotive history. Ever see a 1907 Jap car for sale in Hemmings Motor News. If it weren't for the Europeans and the Americans, they'd still be riding animals.

If the Japs build such great cars, how come they consider it a REAL status symbol and mark of success to own a German car in their home country? Just goes to show you a Lexus/Toyota is just a machine like anything else and will break. That's why I make sure whatever car I buy has a good warranty, and gives me a good loaner and I will buy whatever car I would love to drive, which is not a Lexus... The BMW won me over and I have no issues with it.

I think people are being "Schadenfroh" (German word for "delight at the misfortune of others") about this because most Lexus fan(boy)s on this board always brag about how perfect Lexus is in this and that. It's only natural for some people to feel "happy" about this as this proves that Lexus is no God amongst cars.

Personally I have nothing against Lexus, but their cars don't appeal to me (except the LS) and most Lexus fans I know are blind fanboys who talk smack about other brands 24/7.

well said Bill. most people like to see other's misfortune, especially when the supporters of the company swears by it.

the problem is that when you start to produce certain items en mass, the quality starts to drop because now you car looking at cost reduction for bulk building. Welcome to the real world Lexus. If you want to compete at a platform of 1 Million+ vehicles (which Lexus has a long ways to go) then theres going to be quality problems here and there.

Toy ota,they made a name for themself as being reliable,it's sad that oil sludge from 97 to present,engine,tranny faillure are destroying their reputation.They beat GM in every category and that's included manufacturing bad cars and trucks
