I didn't like the LX at first, but it is growing on me now; the blue color is not bad, I like it in silver better though.

I have, and put several thousands of miles on the both Range Rover and the current LX, (the LX is best towing vehicle I have driven). When I comes to interiors, the Range Rover has no peers.
When I speak of quality, I mean of interior materials and design. I agree with you that as far as reliability goes Rovers are a horror, Although I have never heard of a dash braking.
Off topic the BMW powered Range Rover seem to be a little better, just scary not a horror.

Fold flat seats are practically a necessity nowadays.

As long as Lexus is making a true truck based SUV like the LX and GX, there won't be seats that fold into the floor. Usually, fold into the floor seats are only found on car based SUVs.

A live rear axel makes that impossible,this vehicle is sold globally,and the U.S. is the smallest market.This is a true off road vehicle,unlike the mercedes G-class garbage.

The Mercedes G-Class (and Land Rover Range Rover) is a much more capable off-roader than the new LC/LX, which is a step backwards in terms of axle technology.

They should make a different model for the US--LEXUS's biggest market--that does not have a live rear axle and does have seats that fold flat.

I have to disagree. I think in terms of off-roading capability, the Land Cruiser/LX is just as capable, if not more so, than the Range Rover. Sure, the Range Rover is more technological about it, but the Land Cruiser has the title for the highest climb on some volcano in Japan (I think it's Mt. Fuji), that includes the Range Rover.

For the record, the GL-Class (not to be confused with the G-Class) is NOT more capable off road than a Land Cruiser. Stop smolking crack. The Range is the king, however.

The only problem with the GX is from behind. It looks too tall and clumsy. Other than that, it's a nice SUV.

I never was an LX fan. But I do love the old GX470, can't wait to see how they remake that thing.

The interior is of course very good (dull in black though) - but that blue...that's even brighter and jazzier than my car...and on my car it's called jazz blue! not a good colour methinks.
Not particularly distinguished from the front, slabby and plain big from the rear - this is not an attractive car.
I'm not going to attack it for looking "American" because obviously it's designed with Americans in mind.

In my mind is still not as good as a Range Rover, but then again nothing really is.

I think the AARP Bronze available on the LS460 is worse.

A hybrid LX would get all of 2MPG better. It would be a marketing gimmick, like all the other huge "green" SUVs (Escalade hybrid, anyone?). The only one that makes a bit of sense is the GL320 CDI.

I don't mind the appearance of the new LX. I think that it may look nicer inside than out, but whatever. Now, on the blue. I think that this is Lexus copying Cadillac, and it worked for Cadillac. So why shouldn't Lexus offer it? Most of you may not like it now, but just wait until it's in some rap video sitting on 24's draped in the color blue. Then everyone's going to want a blue LX. why not? its durable, easy to maintain, longer distances and 10k mi oil changes, plus a ton of TQ under your foot. that would make it a beast off-road.

making it a hybrid makes no sense at all but just to increase the weight of this car.

We get a diesel LC in Europe (the old LC though).
It's an old fashioned, big ol' 4.2 6 cylinder job with about 200 hp. Quicker than the 4.7 petrol though.

GL320 cdi is sold here. nice combination of luxury, off-road and a clean diesel. the new LC will be out with a new V8 tt diesel, only for global markets. hard decision here.

First off I like Lexus trucks and most of the L-finesse line. What did the Lexus design team spend twenty minute on it? The more I look at it the uglier it gets.

Stylistically, this thing is a train wreck. the front, is bland at best. The back in seems to be making some sort of alien gapping maw face at me, as if it's about to vomit poor design. The side of is nightmare, come on Lexus, your suppose to be separating yourself from Toyota design, not with this truck. A side shot reveal an uncanny resemblance to the wrong Toyota, It looks like an Bloated and beach Highlander, not a good thing.

My LX 470 has grey interior, and previously I've had the sickly beige Lexus interior in an LS and an SC.

I like travelling in the LX470 because its so comfortable but I'm bored with the beige and grey interiors - are you listening Lexus?????

Now that Mercedes finally has reversing cameras maybe its time for me to switch to the GL rather than move to the LX 570.

The USA is the SMALLEST Market for this Vehicle, there is a big market for this vehicle where it will encounter non paved roads regularly, In most Countries in the Middle East this will be bought by many people who need the luxury but do not need the hassle of the Cayennes and other Tarmac Off Roaders {King of SUVs on Tarmac but not too sensible for regular Off Road Incursions}

Same can be said for Well To Do Consumers in Africa, South America, Australia.....

Pretty much the rest of the world.

Really? Where? To me, it looks like a big M-Class, which looks like the old M-Class but newer, which came out six years before the GX470.

I have not seen one in person but I have to say it looks small, which I know it is not but my concern is that it looks like a Highlander! I like the last variant but the designers went to sleep on this one. I can't see spending $60-$70k on this design.

Will probably have the same poor quality found in it's kissing cousin, the Tundra. A confused design. Wants to be brutish, but can't be for American tastes. The running boards and mud flaps reduce ground clearance to sedan-like effectiveness. Women will complain about getting their legs and clothes soiled by the running boards. Appears to have the same cheap and thin Toyota leather that permanently wrinkles in 50k miles. Looks like the same cheap plastic and mouse fur headliner found in Toyotas. Why are they afraid to show the engine? Why not just weld it shut to save money on the plastic covers? Most Lexus people can't even find the hood latch anyway, much less know anything about engines.

I like it. But luxury cars should stick to more conservative colors. That blue is to zappy for a luxury vehicle. They should have made it a midnight blue metallic instead of that.

Just another thing, people keep saying things about the design being from L-Finesse. Just to put you back on the right track, only four of Lexus' vehicles underwent L-Finess (GS, IS, LS, ES). The ES was the last Lexus to get L-Finesse. Lexus even said so when the ES 350 debuted. This LX has hardly anything to do with L-Finesse.

the interior does not flow aesthetically...

its not only the interior that does not flow - its the entire truck - every single part of this thing looks completely disjointed. i have a 2004 and was looking forward to trading in - but no matter how hard i try to like the new 570 - i just cant. ive seen it three times in person - and it is just not pleasing on the eyes.

all that i like about it is... it's side profile. everything else terrible! front looks like its nose is up in the air - as if its screams snob from a mile away. the back is just - umm - to take CLK63's word - HIDEOUS.

and the inside!!!??? THE nicest part of the past LX was the perfect symmetry and proportions of the inside - there are surfaces and angles going in every direction on the interior of thing - also why is there less wood on this truck - doors especially - rear doors in particular - and why in hell didnt lexus fix the front center cup holders so that they have some depth so to actually hold a variety of diff cup sizes with out them tipping over? look at the lexus water bottles in the pictures - take a turn and no matter if you move those little arms to hold the bottle - those bottles will be in motion - just like in the previous cup holders - ill put money on it.

the whole dash board and center console look like the tackyist things ever (the prior shift gate looks sooo much classier and elegant). last - ALRIGHT - seats do not fold into the floor - REASON - this is platformed on one of the worlds best off roading vehicle - the land cruiser, BUT - LEXUS i hope you are reading this - there is NO chance in hell that i will buy this thing if the 3 row seats are not completely removalbe.

- is this a rumor or what? now that the third row seats are electrically folding - that they are permanently attached to the truck? THE REAR CARGO SPACE IS MINIMAL DUE TO THIS! i cannot remember how many times ive put down the second row seats and removed my 3 row ones to haul stuff around.

style always takes getting used to. but having less wood in the truck, the same useless shallow cupholders, and a third row thats not removable - you'll loose me as a customer.

one thing that looks great tho - the rear climate control stack - beautiful!! looks like it could have come out of an audi or benz - too bad the rest of teh interior does follow suit.


but at the end of the day lexus still knows that it has a monopoly on this segment. im not about to be getting to a pos escalade whose transmission will fail after 3 years (ive had a 97 suburban, 99 denali, and 02 escalade - each gone as a result of such), and im not going to buy that pos mercedes gl-class. the inside does not feel like a proper mercedes - period. plus its still too small for my needs (6 ppl in the fam) the gl while it wants to be a full sized vehicle is just not - its somewhere in between a mid sized suv and a full sized one.

top that off two vehilces that i would pick in a heartbeat both dont offer 3rd rows - mb g-class and rr? if mb was smart they

I don't see what's wrong with the GL-Class, though. If you've ever sat in one you would know that it DOES have top-notch materials and good ergonomics, especially the leather dash and stitching on the seats.

Not as good as the X5, though. Too bad that third row is useless.

thank you for the suggestion, but just to put things in perspective for you - of where i am coming from - 1. i have sat in the gl more than 10 times (lets say i have a habbit of visiting an mb dealer AT LEAST once ever 2-3 months - a hobby when i have time to spare) and 2. i have owned a 94 s500v since new (1994 being the year before the w140 price drop of $9k).

so. ASIDE from the sl, 1st gen slk, and g lines, in my mind there has not been a proper mb since 1999 (read: 1994) - the last year of the w140.

along the way mb has hit some pretty large bumps - 1st gen a, 1st gen ml, 1st year of the current e, the total lack of quality of the pre faclifted w220 s, to name a few. BUT they are getting back on track, cls (yes, even though it is based on the current e chassis and looks nothing like a traditional mb from the outside - i just feel mb in its dna), and w221 s/cl.

anyway... getting to the chase - the gl just does not do it for me. i am indifferent to both hard and soft leather interiors, but the qual of leather on the gl is just below grade (besides the lx and s, i also have a 2000 range rover which has hard leather, but is of a much better feel - cant explain it otherwise) - additionally - the seat controls are just NOT mercedes - neither is the strange second row bench(which is similar to the range rover sport second row - of which i have a similar complaint) - also the feeling when you shut the rear side doors from the inside - again just not mb.

what the gl does have is an amazingly spacious 3rd row - which i give kudos to the lr3 for aswell (it's that split rear axle). otherwise the gl is still not a full size suv- need something with more width for 6 full grown people: along the lines of expedition, tahoe/yukon/suburban, landcruiser, etc..., you get the idea. and the only thing on the market besides american - besides qx56 - in this luxury class is the lx. i guess its a take it or leave it situation. especially with the next to nothing liklihood that land rover will be making a larger suv and that mb will make a true full sized truck.

ALSO - other complaints i have noticed about the new lx -

what's with the after market looking single screen rear dvd player - tons of players in the market are offering dual front headrest mounted screens -

MOREOVER - the blind spot that the c-pillar - looks worse than the current lx - must be checked out when test driving for the first time - no amount of cameras will supplant the safety of being able to see on your own.

ALSO - the center seat in the second row does not look as comfy / as much of a separte seat as the current model - especially w/ that new center armrest and lack of head restraint (safety?? where are you??)

I don't think Merc has made an SUV with a truly luxurious interior, yet. I'm hoping this will be amended with the next batch.

As for their quality niggles. I think that is a lost era. As the W221 models prove, they are right up there with the best again. The S and CL could be the two best luxury cars in the world. I love them both. The CL especially has a simply stunning interior. The S's is tied with the A8 in my book... but I'd still want an S8 or A8L over it, because that's just me. I would feel slightly cliché driving an S550 at my age. I'm not old, but just middle-aged. Every middle-aged guy with some semblance of success drives an S-Class. That's why I'm going to be test driving the S8 in the Spring, and not the S-Class.

I don't know what to say about your SUV problem. You may have to just get over your complaints and pick one. Because you've covered just about all of them and why you wouldn't buy any of them. Have you considered the Audi Q7? I'm not sure about the third row in that one, but it's certainly elegant, inside and out. You would have to get S-Line on that car.

If you didn't need a third row, it would be the BMW X5. We picked up ours last week. Beautiful and perfectly built, inside and out. The V8 has nice grunt and it handles well.

s8 vs. s63 is a difficult decision. very, very difficult. i would drive both - if a dlr allows. if you have a relationship with either dealer, maybe even have one let you take an s550 demo home one weekend and then an a8 the next. at the end of the day it just might come down to a coin toss.

a co worker took delivery of the sickest color combo s8 this past summer (dark grey exterior / red interior). special delivery on two counts - interior color - AND the supposidly $7k bang and olufsen sound system.

in any event. two very worthy autos. gluck.

as for me. i was looking forward to trade up to the new body, not necc that i need to at this time. so it just might be that for the time being ill sit w/ the 04.

but all in all, i dont believe it will be one of those that i plan to keep forever - as i do my two other vehicles - as the lx satisfies my high mileage daily driver need (for now).

Ah, the S63 AMG is a bit out of reach. I just don't want to put down $130K next year. The S8 is in fact very close to the S550 4Matic in price--they are within $3K of each other. However, I won't be driving the S; my wife wants it, but I would just feel like "another" schmuck in an S-Class...

The S8 is so different, so fresh, so beautiful. But I also have the compact performance cars to consider--M3, 335xi, S5, RS4, IS-F, even the decidedly un-compact BMW M5 and Audi S6. So at this point I have no idea. I won't be driving all of the cars I mentioned, and AWD will get the priority, but they are all quite tempting...

BTW, I might even consider the CL! That car is a dream. However, if I got a CL550 (preferably a CL63 AMG if I do well next year...), it would be my primary vehicle. Most of the other cars I mentioned (sans the S8) would be "winter cars." And I'd keep the S4 for awhile longer. But the CL would be something, like the S8, that I would want to drive all year long.

Interior, comfortable no doubt, but ugly and mismatched. And the exterior, just ugly and mismatched.

and to respond to the comment abt the engine compartment being surrounded w/ plastic - i think it has more to do with road noise reduction than not requring customers to bring their autos into a lex service center.

all in all - verdict: this thing will sell, and very well at that. i dont believe the soccer moms who drive this thing in the US will care about these little things - all that they know is that theirs is the older body and that theyll want the newer one.

the old one only sold about 6,000 a year...and i don't think this one will sell much more. nothing close to the 25,000+ range rovers sold.

plus, what are lexus inteirors turning into? bmw's from the 80's? ive never seen soo many identical looking buttons with only differences being whats written on them since.

plus - i didnt really realize it in person (out of the three time i saw it in person - 1 time i got to check out the entier interior (on display at the us open) - but it looks like the passenger hvac temperature controls may be out of reach for the driver???

Hideous truck. I like the styling of the new Landcruiser much better. The LX570 just looks like a fat pig. The design is unproportional, the interior looks terrible (design-wise) and the luxury bias probably means it WON'T BE AS OFFROAD CAPABLE AS THE LANDCRUISER.

Also, what's up with idiotic Lexus fanboys bashing the Range Rover or Mercedes G/GL? Those cars are extremely offroad capable. Every review for example has praised the Mercedes GL's offroad capability. It might not be as sporty as the X5 or Q7, but it trashes them both when it comes to offroading, so I've read.

Now, a hybrid LX570? What a waste of time. I'm not in favor of hybrid SUVs because the moment you leave the city environment they will consume even more gasoline than their stock gasoline counterparts (thank the extra weight for that). A hybrid SUV makes no sense, be it the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid etc. A *DIESEL* powerplant is the way to go for overweight SUVs like this.

Following on the heels of the re-designed chub nose Sequoia, comes this Highlander box look-alike? I thought Lexus was to differentiate from Toyota? The rear reminds me of the Lincoln Navigator. Everything outside looks bloated and nasty. The interior looks good though.

This Model is the luxery of the New Land Cruiser 200... in Venezuela calls Roraima... for the presentation in South America... there will be a expedition to go to the for caridnals point of southamerica. all around this events demonstrade the quality of a off road car. I wachted here in Venezuela and it is very good in off road... maybe is not the best looking car... people buy toyota for quality and long year car... again ask why people buy toyota numbers doesnt lie .... numbers are numbers

The new Toyota Landcruiser looks pretty nice in my opinion. But for some reason, this does not transfer over to the Lexus version. Hard to explain.

Either way, I'd select the Landcruiser over this car anyday.

First of all to me this LX570's exterior is simply gorgeous, no par with RR Sport. Interior well RR Sport is nowhere near it's luxury. I can say because last month i was driving the RR sport.

Now the people who r saying ugly, hideous…etc actually like the GL which is a jumbo ML, X5 which is no doubt ugly but still attractive, Q7 which look like a tall A6 Avant or mini van from behind, Cayenne ahh just an egg or a balloon or a pumped up/swollen 911 ...etc

seriously, the wheels are always too small for the wheel wells. It is too bubbly like a poor japanimation cartoon. Looks way too toyota. Why go to Lexus, I would rather go to toyota, and then I would never go to toyota! No road feel. It is a point A to B car.

I have always loved the 1999-2006 LX470. Very classy looking now. This one is a jumble of design ideas and is so so. But inside is beautiful like Range Rover. Now, why aren't those rear window tinted like the other Lexus SUVS?????

The recent truck styling trend from Toyota has been rather odd. The smallest & least expensive SUV model, RAV4, was the FIRST to receive the new Toyota exterior truck styling and the bigger & more expensive trucks/SUVs have followed suit w/similar styling cues.
Doesn't this usually work the other way around?
Otherwise, you get a bigger, more expensive, more capable & lavish vehicle that looks like an overgrown cute-ute.

Considering how the Lexus fans were all over the eight-speed when it came out, and how everyone was going to "copy" them, I would say it is a point of embarrassment for Lexus to tout it as their own first.

I didn't even notice the six-speed in the 7 Series. It was all about the styling.

I honestly don't care about who is first with the next cog in an automatic transmission, because it's a natural progression and all brands will eventually have it. Nobody is "copying" one another with that sort of thing. Real advancements are made with completely new transmission technologies, like Audi's DSG, BMW's SMG, Maserati's Cambiocorsa, Lamborghini's eGear...

Just what the world needs...this thing is an excessive piece of huking metal with no style what so ever.

Even with its faults the Range Rover makes this look like a barge that had everything thrown at it and in it to compensate for absolutely no design aesthetic or class.

Bottom line is that new new LX570 is a very impressive vehicle and has presence on the street. As for the interior, how can somebody claim that it is not attractive?
I was very impressed with the GL and RR interior when I sat in them, but I felt more comfortable in the Lexus.

The interior is good. Not class-leading but not below par, either.

I think the current LX470 is very elegant. It offers subtlety in its design, and looks expensive without compromising the LC's rugged persona.

But to me, the new 570 is just a bit too much. Too much chrome, an over-designed interior, too much flash. The Range Rover is also much, much, MUCH more subtle but is still even more luxurious and even more beautiful to behold and even better to take off roading!

as written above: still no dual front headrest mounted rear dvd screens? instead: after market looking single screen? c-pillar looks like it makes for more of a blind spot than the current gen lx. additionally, less spacious / comfortable looking center second row seat w/ no head restraint - a saftey consideration the current gen lx offers.

hate the idea of always having to have that little auxilary power port door open on the center console - something else to get in the way / possibly break.

It's also quite expensive. $63K. I believe that's more than the LX470 costed when it came out ten years ago.

wow. ive never seen the lc in person, only the lx. ive seen it on the toyota website, but the pics there are just not descriptive. just went on ebay after fastone's comment - the outside of the lc looks great! i am really impressed. it retains that "handsome" classy look of the prev gen. something just doesnt translate w/ the lx. its almost as if lex went overboard in trying to differentiate it from the lc. for the first time, i even like the rear lights of the lc better than the lx's. and the front is not as rakish as the lx. still like the side of the lx better tho.

interior though still not pleased. from the pics - lx interior still wins no contest. BUT at least the lc has wood strips that range from the front to the back of the door sills! shouldn't the lx lead the lc in this - not the other way around? plus wood around the rear air vents - not in the lx? dont get me wrong, im not one for those fake stick on wood packages - never in a million years - but this lack of wood on the new lx is upsetting.

everyone should def go check out ebay motors 08 lc listings. they have them up in a ton of colors.

They have different center stack designs. That's about it.

The LC in fact has MORE wood, they have the exact same drivetrains, and the exact same technology. And the LC looks better. And it costs less.

Gentlemen, There is a great deal of misinformation being posted. Single Best complaint: Cup holders!!They sucked before and the unchanged version still sucks. I feel the dry cleaners and the coffee shops are conspiring... Spend 80K and still burn my leg and ruin my suit pants, absolute BS
Ok some details.
The LX is a Landcruiser that was dressed up for the US market. It was a trim level in other countries: Cygnus in Japan, Amazon in the UK and Sahara most other places. Due to it's success Lexus is making it a world wide model with the 5.7 litre "Petrol" engine. (Gas to us here)
The core differences remain unchanged with the new version. The share 97% of the same gear. Which is good considering. The Front Fascia, including grill and Lights are changed to look Lexus Like. The Suspension on the LX has always been Height Adjustable and has had Varible Suspension settings for the Terrain. This remains the Case. the Old LC was Coil and Shock, the New LC has Coil Over shocks up front with a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System( very badd ass).
The core Differences between the LC and the LX has always been the Interior Trim. Although it was the same nav and the same center console, still is. The LX is more posh. But remember, this differentiation was solely created to Justify the LX as Lexus's Brand SUV and evoke a premium. ( for most the premuim is worth it) It comes with one of the most reliable best built Diesal engines in the world, outside of the US. Tested over and over again. Many of us have tried in vain to bring them in, a few have gotten away with it, but most have had them confiscated by the government. Doesn't meet EPA requirements.
As for the Core markets, the two main Markets are the Middle East and Australia, Collectively they make up more than 35% of the market.
The average age income and other demographics for this vehicle are readliy available on the web. But to make it simple, Male, Late middle aged, income in excess of 170K this changes per country. LC owners Typically have very high net worths. While most other "flash" models tend to have High Income owners.
The difference:LC equals worth millions, "Flash" equals makes a million and spends it fixing his 100K auto.
The head rests contain an active headrest restraint in case of an accident it will move forward to help avoid wiplash, hence no TV.
We have figured out that the seats can be removed with a socket wrench, although the size escapes me. Look it up on IH8mud.com under the 200 series tech section.

As for styling, I must admit I was non-plussed when I saw it, but it is growing on me. Please understand that we get a disproportionate amount of influence on this, other countries Follow our lead since most of the vehicles are designed to meet US standards. And while I agree that there are many other Sexy and Alluring SUVs, I am not sure how many of them I would actually take off road.

The 5.7 engine will be made in japan, in an engine factory that has less than ten defects per million allowed. This is the industries best plant, so I don't feel the recall issue bears weight here. Most of toyota's recalls are from american plants. and while the number has increased over previous models, they are still no where near as bad as the second place competitors.

For those of you who are unaware of the Landcruisers History. It is the single most reliable best built off road vehicle in history. Anyone that would like to question that should, A) do research- ask why does the UN have the largest fleet, why are there so many LC's with roof mounted Machine guns in other countries? What is the History of the Landcruiser
B) Take your Pretty SUV, and make the standard off-road modifications, larger tires 33-36, metal bumpers and sliders(remove running boards)then fill up the tank and drive out to the middle of "no- where" on unpaved earth until you hit the half way mark on the gas guage. then turn around and come back. Just for kicks, do it in the sand it 120 F heat, or -20F over Ice. If you make it back, tell everyone your story. Then keep doing it until you pass 200K or more, then you might convince me and a few other to try your rig. Until then, I will stick with the Time tested Landcruiser.

Other then a Soccer Mom (or grand mother) and a ghetto rapper, I can't imagine why anyone would buy one of these when you can buy a Land Cruiser with better and truer looks, best-in-class off-road process and world-wide recognition. I would just buy a LS if I wanted a Lexus and a Lexus dealer.
