Mercedes and BMW deal expected soon
Mercedes-Benz and BMW are expected to make an announcement before the end of the year about a new partnership in regards to the development of four-cylinder engines for the next-generation B-Class (codenamed C412) and Mini. There’s even talk of a possible tie-up with Audi further down.

The information comes from an inside source, who revealed that the partnership could be extended within the near future. Germany’s carmakers are worried about development costs for a new range of low-emissions powertrains.

I hope you guys know, he meant this in saying that Lexus is stronger. That BMW, Audi and Merc "need" to "hold each others hand."

All three of them sharing technology would be amazing.

It would only benefit all of us! I would understand if they share engine technologies to ensure efficiencies in emissions and MPG's. But, I dont expect them to share platforms.

they won't be sharing to much info with each other...if they did, why would the brand be distinct from its partner?

the collabo on the mini/b-class does seem a good idea though...always loved that MINI

once the 3 collaborate, there will be no point in getting a lexus or infiniti

In fact, the three brands are so close in every respect right now that I wouldn't be able to pick out distinct features for them to focus on in this partnership.

You could say engineering for BMW, but Audi has a major focus on engineering technology, also--maybe an even bigger one. Merc is also very commited to producing the latest green technology (S400 Bluetec Hybrid, F400 Concept).

Luxury? Audi might be the obvious answer, but Merc's W221 models sure put up a good fight.

And design... I wouldn't be able to choose. BMW pushes the envelope. Audi refines and redefines. Merc is always there with the latest and greatest style trends.

What do you guys think?

If they share engines, they will be able to lower production costs which in turn creates more profit --> this will then go into R&D and other development that will improve their cars in the long run...LOVE THIS!!!!

The article says BMW and Mercedes will work together to match the economics of scale than Audi shares with VW.
