What I don't like is that we don't get that in the US market. Isn't that what Toyota does with the Crown? It gets its own emblem? Because I see the new Gensis as becoming a Crown-like vehicle.

its not just the crown. Toyota has different emblems for almost each of its models, to distinguish the lower models from the more prestigious, especially when lexus was marketed as a toyota not so long ago. The Nissan Elgrand emblem is awe inspiring though. I wish the Quest was replaced by the Elgrand in the U.S., as well as the Alphard and Sienna and Alysion with Oddysey. The Genesis seems really nice, but its badge just doesn't carry enough prestige so I doubt it will sell well but will boost the brand image as a whole.

those are luxury vans and are REALLY nice. though replacing them with the vans here need to be more thought-after.

I love the speed at which Hyundai is climbing its way up. In a matter of a couple of decades they seem only a few steps away from achieving what has taken others far far longer.

Some of my friends and I rented a Kia Optima (Kia is a subsidiary of Hyundai) to go to the Detroit Auto Show this year. I hadn't been in a Hyundai group car before and I must say all of us (we are Automotive Engineers lol) were thorughly impressed with the level of quality, inside and out on the Kia. I would go so far to say as the percieved feel and quality of the interior is neck and neck with Toyota and Honda. Reliability, I can't speak for, but with a 10 year 100,000mile warranty who cares?? The car is covered far longer than most people keep it anyways!

Then when we got to the Detroit Autoshow, after walking all over and seeing all the booths, all of us agreed that the quality and fit and finish of the rented Kia we had left outside in the snow, far FAR outshone anything of its price competition from the Big 3.

I hate to say it, because I live and work in America as an Automotive Engineer, but the quality of the big 3 offerings at the show were embarrassing in comparison.

With this new Genesis coupe and sedan, I believe we are seeing the first wave of a revolution in the perception of the Korean automotive nameplate image. Just like the Japanese built up their name with quality products, the Koreans are doing it too, at a comparatively breakneck rate!

Props to Hyundai! I give credit where it is due, and I can't think of any other automaker that has come so far, so fast. My guess: Hyundai has a very bright future.

I agree with you about the "big" 3 quality, this is coming from another engineer's view. Regarding why Hyundai reached what others took longer, is because of advanced technology. If Hyundai was out 40+ years it might not have gotten this fast to where it is.

I also give credit to Hyundai and any company that really cares about its product's quality.

In maybe 10 years Hyundai will have true competitors to the high end cars and it will have cars that sit side by side by the S class, LS, 7 series, etc... just like Lexus did it Hyundai is definitly aiming very hard to get there. And this said, I have a feeling in few years from now I could be driving a Hyundai.

As far as for the "big" 3, I'm just wondering when they'll stop ripping the Americans and care for once about America and its products. Shame on them as a kid, Hyundai, has passed them beyond imagination.

Just when you thought Hyundai couldn't become any less original they become...well, less original. Hyundai is basically doing the same thing that all the knock-off car brands in China are doing, with exception of the Hyundai's quality being way better of course.

Doesn't Lexus GS have only 340HP and cost alot more? Shame on Lexus.

Yes, but the GS has "L-Finesse" styling, which obviously recoups the price difference.

why pick on lexus. that can be said for the E class and 5 series, and M class.

Genesis will have

3.3 Lamda V6 267hp/34.1 torque ( regular gas )

3.8 Lamda V6 307hp/38.8 torque ( regular gas )

4.6 tau V8 375-380hp/49.8 torque ( premium gas )US only

V6 & V8 are not even Direct inject engine

Actually, the "Edmunds" author is wrong. As far as aviator wings go, the similarity between Hyundai's and Bentley's is far weaker than that between Bentley's and any of the other dozens of examples.
