Saab is set to launch a concept version of its BMW 1-Series rival London Motor Show in July. The Saab 9-1 entry-level model will be based on GM’s new Astra Delta platform and is expected to go on sale at the end of 2009.

As long as SAAB vehicles are based on 'lesser' GM platforms, they can't realistically expect to compete with the better sport compacts from the Germans/Japanese etc.

This might make a decent alternative to AUDI's A3, but hardly the 1-Series.

They should offer a highly advanced turbocharged 4 cylinder in this car. The old SAABS were known to have an advanced turbo inline 4 back in the day.
