2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 teaser pics released

Chrysler has released the first official teaser pics of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 which hits delaerships in spring of ‘08 along with the base Challenger model. As reported yesterday, Dodge has already received 6,000 deposits for the car which is priced at $37,995. Dodge has said that it will only be producing 10,000 units of the SRT8 variant of the Challenger. No official horsepower rating has been released as of yet, but we do know that it will be powered by a 6.1 liter HEMI V8.

The new camaro is nothing but hype at this point. How do you know how they will compare not even knowing what engine it will be powered with? Only one answer to that question...

The Camaro is coming in Feb 2009. However by that time the Challenger will be out over a year and Ford will have it's revamped Mustang with more HP.Chevys timing stinks.

i agree, they should really go ahead and release it they have been talking about this car for years now. If done right its styling may prove to have longer lasting appeal than the challenger which looks like a clone of the original not bad looking just EXTREMELY retro...the Camaro is mix of modern and retro which normlly seems to last longer than these strong retro desighns, and i think the camaro in concept form at least seems more upscale than the mustang...but the production version couldnt come soon enough

I think it will sale, but not as much as expected if they dont put a 5-6 speed M in it.

Thats where your wrong. This is step in the right direction. The "masses" you are talking about want this car. Bad. This car has a serious following, and it will be a HUGE hit. Toyota doesnt have a car that inspires passion for driving. The only thing their ex-execs will teach Dodge is how to make a car into an everyday appliance that you use because you have to, not because you want to.

GTR, now Challenger next the Camaro.Just another manufacturer sticking it to the customer by hyping the initial batch of cars and gouging the initial buyers. Wait a year after introduction and they will offer it to you at a discount to the sticker.

The GT-R dealers aren't exactly "gouging" their customers. The cars are in very high demand, and it's very hard to get them, for good reason. This always = higher prices, no matter what brand it is. The Chrysler PT Cruiser was initially sold out. Ferrari can tack on as much as $100,000 to the sticker of a new sports car, should they see it fit. Audi is charging $50K over sticker for the R8. It goes on.

i think you missed the point! Not a matter of competing. Point is, hot cars tend to bring out the greed in dealers, by gouging the intial interested customers.

It's an awesome car, but 06GS300 above has a point. These specialty cars with humongous engines are all that Chrysler can ever seem to get right. They need just-as-exciting small and mid-size cars (and minivans and SUVs) so that they can sustain some momentum.
