Will Anyone Ever Match The 600hp Bentley GT Speed?

Will Anyone Ever Match The 600hp Bentley GT Speed?
Here's a simple question: if 550 horsepower is good, what is better? How about 600 horsepower? That, in a nutshell, is the strategy behind Bentley's newest offering, the Continental GT Speed, for 2008.

As the Volkswagen-owned British luxury brand considered upgrading its successful Continental GT coupe, owners told the company, 'don't change our car, just give us more of what we already have."

The result, explains engineering chief, Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn, is the first production Bentley capable of topping 200mph. The horsepower figure and top speed capability may sound academic in today's driving environment, but such numbers are important to buyers of cars in the GT class. One of the reasons is that the luxury market niche occupied by the GT has grown more crowded since the car's debut in 2003. Crowded, that is, by ultra-luxury standards. When it was launched, the GT pretty much had the $150,000 to $200,000 segment to itself. But other brands noted Bentley's success and have since joined the party with models such as Aston Martin's DB9, the Mercedes-Benz S65, Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo (another VW-owned brand).

Arguably the single most handsome coupe (vehicle?) on the road today, and Fast As Well!

Very beautiful...

This will go down as one of the best Bentleys ever produced. Thanks, VW!

The M6 has no rear seat, and the interior doesn't come close.

I love the M, but this and that don't compete. The Conti GT's closest competitor is the CL600, but the GT Speed's is the CL65 AMG.

"IS3andME" I agree that the M6 is a bargain next to this car, but get over yourself with the whole BMW engine thing, as if VW engines aren't award winning & comparable to BMW's.

People could also switch that around on you by saying with the Bentley you get their "B" logo, which carries more prestige & long-term value than the BMW roundel, a logo you can find on a used 318i.

If VW is considered to make crappy engines, than Ferrari might as well be the only automaker left making a decent engine.

LOL! pwned!

The W12 was also developed by Audi, and not VW...

That's one beautiful car. The GTC is my wet dream. Take note BMW, with your "as good lookin' as a truck" Rolls Royce.
