Toyota Sees Robotics As Core Business Of Future
Compared to a virtuoso, its rendition was a trifle stilted and, well, robotic. But Toyota's new robot plays a pretty solid "Pomp and Circumstance" on the violin.

The 5-foot-tall all-white robot, shown Thursday, used its mechanical fingers to press the strings correctly and bowed with its other arm, coordinating the movements well.

Toyota Motor Corp. has already shown robots that roll around to work as guides and have fingers dexterous enough to play the trumpet.

Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe said robotics will be a core business for the company in coming years. Toyota will test out its robots at hospitals, Toyota-related facilities and other places starting next year, he said. And the company hopes to put what it calls "partner robots" to real use by 2010, he said.

"We want to create robots that are useful for people in everyday life," he told reporters at a Toyota showroom in Tokyo.

Have you ever seen the Asimo ride a bicycle?
That was impressive. Forget about those preprogrammed tasks,
the way we use robots today in factories.

If you think these robots are immpressive you should see the CNC machine create the Bugatti Veyron engine.

Are you really THAT stupid? I know how to operate a CNC machine and the logic and algorithms that go in it are amazing but, not THAT complex!

Watch this video of my personal friend Guthrie Govan.

Program a robot to do what he does.

BTW he plays with the English band 'Asia'.

In what way does your link have ANYTHING to do with the discussion about CNC vs. A more sophisticated robot?

Yes, your friend plays good but and NO there aren't any robots out there that can do what people can do. Robots are probably not even capable of doing 10% of what humans can do. BUT, that wasn't part of the argument. I was just saying that CNC machines are amazing but, they're not the most sophisticated equipments around.

Yes, yes, we know... and then it will take over the world, become the most reliable vehicle ever conceived, and it will be re-badged as a Lexus ES350-Fh ROBOT EDITION and that will take over the luxury car market by year 2067...

The fundamental point of advancing technology is to improve our daily lives. Watching people make comments about it being "boring" is getting annoying. You want a more exciting life, leave your car (an advanced technological machine) at home and walk to work everyday.
