Why would Acura even care about this vehicle as it has no offerings that compete in this market segment?

I (personally) don't see many 'cross shopping' the EVO with the dull/anemic TS-X.

001, even so, Acura and Mitsubishi have nothing to do with each other. Acura has a lot of things to worry about right now, but Mitsubishi's AWD system isn't one of them.

Edmunds already stated that the new STI beats the new EVO in ride and gearbox/powertrain. EVO wins in looks and was a close comparo. EVO needs to be more refined and break away from the typical Mitsu cost cutting.

This isn't going to sway any STI fans do the EVO-Side. And ss far as Acura goes, they're not going to loose any sleep over the release of a new Evo. If you looking at buying an Acura(luxury car) the idea of getting an Evo(if you even know what an Evo is) probably hasn't even crossed your mind.

Subaru has a complex engine development program focusing on boxer engines. I anything, I'd rather compare this effort to Mazda's relentless development of the Wankel rotary engine. These are true engineering success stories. Even Ford could bolt a turbocharger on an engine driving four wheels (Sierra XR4Ti) but this never qualified them to compare to the top guys in class.

Mitsubishi has clearly gained traction since parting ways with Daimler Chrysler. Acura is definitely going down in terms of engineering ingenuity, they are not that far off...

Typically the answer to the poster's question, 'should the pricier segments worry' would be NO, but that is not the case here. Yes, Subaru and Acura should both be worried now, because both those manufacturers do NOT have any design talent on their staff, so an ugly car like this "Mitsubishi EVO" can come along and compete on a mechanical basis alone whereas normally it would be rightfully excluded because of its inferior visual appeal, regardless of its specs.

I don't know why you would think Acura has any product that competes with the EVO and the WRX. The only other Japanese cars that would compete with the EVO and WRX would be the Mazda Speed3 and (possibly) Nissan Sentra S/E Spectra V. The Volkswagen GTI, the Volvo C30, and the Mini Cooper S could perhaps be considered competitors. (The Volkswagen R32 would be an even better competitor, but it's much more expensive.)

Acura has a lot of other things to worry about than the evo. More like a weakening brand image, and fastly declining sales of new models.

If you think a TL or TSX customer isn't cross shopping the competition, you're kidding yourself.

And that includes the WRX and EVO.

There only new model is the MDX 5000 sold a month doesn't sound like declining to me. So before you make stupid subjective comments do some research. The TL is 5 years old and still sells around 4500 a month. Next summer all the sedans will be redesigned and after that if sales don't pick up then we should be having this conversation, because in the last few years the only company that has remain steady in sales is Lexus and nobody right now will catch them
