Official Lexus LX570 Pricing announcement

Pulled from the Corporate Messages this morning:

DEALER LETTER
TO: Lexus Dealers Date: December 10, 2007
SUBJECT: 2008 MY LX 570 Price Announcement
Lexus is pleased to announce pricing for the all-new 2008 LX 570. The third-generation LX features more technological advancements to provide added power, segment-leading safety, best-in-class on- and off-road capability, and supreme comfort and luxury with greatly improved interior room.
All-New 2008 LX 570
The new LX 570’s V8 dual VVT-i engine produces 383 hp, an increase of 115 hp over the previous generation LX, and 80 hp greater than Range Rover HSE. The new LX’s 403 lb.-ft. of torque is better than Range Rover and Mercedes Benz GL 550. The powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine is mated to a new 6-speed Electronically Controlled Transmission with Sequential Shift, designed and built especially for heavy-duty usages. With the improved powertrain, new chassis and suspension system, the LX 570 has a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, an improvement of 2,000 pounds over the previous model. That’s more towing capacity than Ranger Rover, GL 550 and Cadillac Escalade.
The LX 570’s new intelligent suspension system helps to reduce chassis roll and pitch angle about 30 percent, resulting in increased on-road performance and ride comfort. For improved aerodynamics, the new Active Height Control (AHC) system lowers the vehicle at highway speeds. When the transfer case is shifted into low range, the AHC system raises the vehicle by approximately three inches to provide additional ride height when clearance is at a premium. Finally, the AHC system carefully controls the LX ride height lowering the chassis by an average of two inches for entry and exit, and returning automatically to normal height when the vehicle begins acceleration.
1
Another of the many new intelligent technology features is the world’s first Crawl Control for increased throttle control when maneuvering over rough or difficult surfaces. In low range, Crawl Control uses the throttle and brake to automatically maintain appropriate low speeds. The new LX also features an innovative multi-terrain ABS braking system that helps to reduce stopping distance on slippery surfaces such as sand or gravel. The new LX gives the driver the ability to go places and do things that weren’t possible before. These superior capabilities provide the inspiration for the LX 570 advertising tagline “The Driver Empowered”.
A first for North America, the LX 570 will offer an available Wide-view Front and Side Monitor. Small cameras are located within the front grille and under the passenger side-view mirror allowing the driver to easily check hard-to view areas by viewing the camera images on the navigation screen. One side of the screen shows the front view, while the other side shows the views at the right front and rear corners of the vehicle.
The new LX 570 interior and exterior length increase by four inches and width by an inch, creating a more inviting and comfortable space for up to eight passengers. The new interior provides comfort and luxury features found in our top-of-the-line LS sedan. These features will be very appealing to the LX customer, the most affluent customers and among the youngest in your dealership. The best-in-class comfort and luxury features include 4-zone climate control system with numerous air vents, leather- and wood-trimmed interior, climate control front seats with heated rear seats, first-in-class power-sliding second row seats, power-folding third row seats, front seat cushion extenders, touch-screen navigation, Bluetooth, XM satellite radio with real time traffic, Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound system and a DVD rear entertainment system.
As you know, LX customers place a high value on safety. The new LX 570 provides enhanced safety features such as a segment-leading 10 standard airbags including driver- and front-passenger knee airbags, second-row seat-mounted side airbags and third-row curtains. Other safety features are segment-first Active Front Headrests, second-row seatbelt pretensioners, direct tire pressure monitor system and dual swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS).

“… almost like driving an LS.”
“Great suspension. Really impressive. A big improvement from the LX 470.”

“The Crawl Control is pretty cool… couldn’t believe how easily it went down the steep hill…”

Not out of line considering the preposterous pricing of the competitors listed, and the vehicle on which it's based the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Still... Ridiculous just the same given that it really is little more than a badge engineered Toyota Land Cruiser.

"By the same token you would call MB a chrysler, Audi a VW"

Nope. For Merc, it's the opposite. Chrysler had used last-gen E-Class platforms while Mercedes-Benz moved on to the current gen. The same goes for the Crossfire/last-gen SLK.

For Audi, the only cars that they have based on VWs are the A3, TT and Q7. Even then, the TT is mostly aluminum, which completely separates it from the GTI; the Q7 is six inches (?) longer than the Touareg/Cayenne. The others are all different.

In the LX's case, it's truly the SAME CAR. That's not a bad thing, because the LC is a great vehicle, but both of them are now overpriced, and I just wouldn't see the point of spending $10K more on the LX, especially when I find the Land Cruiser more attractive.

And at the price of the others which will be more you can also add your repair bills and down time to that tab. For the bang for the buck Lexus has always offered more and doesn't need to be in the shop every other day. Land Rover is only "Dead last" on JD powers 07 dependability studies, and MB is 12th. So your point is spend more for less product and quality? Me thinks you need to make another point.

You can disagree it's okay.

Do Toyota and Lexus even us the same steele to build the cars? No.

Yes, its not government regulated (yet) but Lexus does it out of respect. No GX nor LX will have HIDs in factory form. RXs are based off a car chassis, so they are allowed HIDs.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Lexus sell more of these than Toyota in the US. I dont think the LC is designed or priced to sell well in this country. Toyota seems to know that Americans would rather have something in the Sequoia class, or step up to luxury. The LC is for the rest of the world, and I'm sure is only sold here as a nod to Toyota heritage.

This LX rocks, btw. Great styling combining L-Finesse with a solid LC/LX tradition. Amazing engine, luxury, features and capabilities. The Range Rover is a little long in the tooth and the GL is just a stretched ML. This is the class of the field.

Great point the LC will be a great SUV but it's buyers are in it for the price not what Lexus has to offer. Everything about Lexus and their dealerships screams Luxury. Toyota on the other had is mass production in the factory and in the dealerships. Clients that can afford 73k for a SUV don't want to be treated like they bought a Toyota. A LC buyer won't mind.

The only reason the LC will outsell the LX is because it is mass produced and the LX will have a production run of 10k a year. Of course the LC will sell more what's your point? Or did you have one?

That is a very poor comment from you S4. That truly tells me you know nothing about Lexus or it's business model. Every Lx that is produced each year is sold easily with many customer left wanting. 80% of all Lx's are sold before they arrive in the state. If Lexus was stupid enough to flood the market they would still sell eveyone but make less money.

Yeah your plan is better mass produce a premium product and drive down the market. Good thinking!

Take a look at the competition and see how many leftovers they have. You want a great deal on a full size SUV go to everyone but Lexus you will find plenty.

"The Range Rover is a little long in the tooth and the GL is just a stretched ML."

So. You take a swipe at the RR and GL while praising the LX... and you don't expect the same from us?

Well, I'm not going to do that, but I'll just defend the RR and GL.

The Range Rover may have been out for five years, but it still looks amazing. It's the most modern, gorgeous truck out there. Lexus, Merc and the rest are only playing catch-up when it comes to off-road technology.

The GL is much more than a stretched ML, and I think you know that. The GL550 looks stunning, and it has the performance to match. It has a very versatile, luxurious interior. The 320 CDI (pick of the range for sensible shoes) is not overpriced at mid-$50Ks and delivers well over 20MPG on the highway. I could go on...

Oh, yeah, it handles well, too.

Answer is Yes, Yes, Yes. I suggest you go visit the Tahara plant in Japan and see for yourself.

The Land Cruiser and LX is built in the number 1 Toyota factories in Aichi Japan; mostly handbuilt with highest Q/A

"All Land Cruisers are built in small volumes in Japan. Production is shared between the Yoshiwara plant, in Aichi, Japan, (now manufacturing Prius, LX470 and 4Runner) and Toyota's vaunted Tahara plant, which mostly manufactures Lexus vehicles. These are Toyota's flagship manufacturing facilities."

The Land Cruiser is the most important brand to Toyota. It has more cachet than a "lexus". Internally, the LX570 is known as a 200 series Land Cruiser.

I pick Range Rover. but if I had to get a Toyota, i'd get the "land cruiser" over the tarted LX570. The name Land Cruiser has more class than Lexus.

I'd respect the driver of a LC over a soccermom driving a LX. They have more class because they didn't buy a label and know what they got. They're often low-profile and less gaudy than brand whores.

"The LX outsells the LC. But the Range Rover still sells 10 for every LX."

Talk world sales here. GL and RR are not even sold in many countries/markets. LX and especially LC is way more. I think globally LC outsells RR or GL 10000 to 1.

And btw the name LX has more class than the MB GL as it's around for more number of years than the all new GL, which is a first full size SUV from MB (Still have a lot to prove).

And LC, just don't even talk about this class, prestige...etc and all. The legendary LC is way more respected and all that, then a newer model (GL Class)

Anyway good job Lexus as mentioned LX570 is more powerful, better towing capacity, many world's firsts, costs less and that interior is just unparallel...etc is a great replacement.

But as usual u ignorants will not give Lexus credit for coming up with this serious rival but will bash it and come up with the same rebadged crap.

Land Cruisers come in various versions - Prado, Amazon, FJ70.
So yes, if you take that umbrella name than they may sell more than a Range Rover.
The GX470 is the Land Cruiser "prado" in other parts of the world.
So, yes. if you want to compare 5-6 different models with all the same name "Land cruiser", it does sell more than the "Range Rover"
How about all Land Cruiser sales vs all Land Rover sales (including Defender/Disco/Freelanders)

However, we are talking about the 200 series platform. THe one it replaced was called the 100 series which included
the LX470 and Land Cruiser Amazon. Do you have any source to back up your claim that the 100/200 series sell more than the Range Rover.

The ones used by the NGOs are not the 100/200 series.

BTW, I 'OWN' a Land Cruiser so I know what they are. I have a restored FJ40 which has more panache than any mordern Land Cruiser.

And yes, the LX570 is a rebaded Land Cruiser. It is built in the samne friggen factory.

Oh, wait, that's just fanboys talking out of their rectums again.

If you think the LX is just a rebadged Cruiser, good for you. Just to let you know, those buying the LX don't give a crap what you think. Neither does Lexus for that matter.

The LX, GL, and Range Rover/sport are all pretty kick ass vehicles. If you like one more than the others, well, that just makes you a human being.

Stop all the bitching, sales figure quoting, and other BS.

some years back, C&D ran an article about Ethiopian rebels. being rebels, they could 'liberate' ANY vehicles they chose.

they TURNED THEIR NOSES UP at RRs. their #1 vehicle of choice was the LC. practically indestructible, even in combat conditions!

reporter who spent time with the rebels told of a LC which took a direct hit from a rocket fired by a gov't plane.

the rebels went to salvage what they could later, but tried repairs first. all the belts, hoses, and other soft parts had been blown off. but after simple replacements, they were able to DRIVE THE LAND CRUISER AWAY.

this BATTLE PROVEN TOUGHNESS shows WHY the LC is the most respected heavy duty off road/no road vehicle all ACROSS THE PLANET.

I'm a new poster and have certainly enjoyed the sharp repartee among the loyal readership. Some of you evidently don't have enough to do. Nonetheless, I'd like to add my two cents for what it is worth

First, the bonafides: I have owned 2 LCs, 3 LXs, a GX, and various assorted other SUVs, from Blazers and Suburbans, two MLs, to a recently departed Cayenne Turbo S for me and an ML 63 for the little woman. I have a big family...

The reality is that the LX, in terms of mechanical content, is in fact largely a rebadged LC, which as pointed out is no bad thing. However, at least for most of the 100 series timeline, the LX differed from the LC in more than merely cosmetic ways: It had a different suspension, interior, safety equipment, audio system, and options (some useful, some eyewash). It drove, handled and rode differently. And in the US, it outsold the LC (again during the tenure of the 100 series). Both the LC and the LX were undeniably more reliable than the RR, more comfortable (but probably not better off-road) than the Mercedes G (which I never owned but also drove extensively) and at least in my experience better riding on and off-road than the GL, at least without the GL "off-road" package.

The bigger issue in my view is whether the new LC and LX are better than the outgoing models. To my eye, the new models are not better looking. More importantly, I spent a long afternoon with one of the new 2008 LCs, and I frankly think the fit and finish of the older model is better--The new one had panel gaps, loose trim pieces and some cheap-looking plastic that the outgoing model never had. The added HP is great, and the "crawl control" feature in interesting (although I suspect 99.9% of the LC buyers will never us it in a million years). With its recent well-known quality problems, I am hopeful that these were just early-production problems and that future builds will be tighter. I am also hopeful that the looks will grow on me. However, last week I bought an '07 onyx LX470 to hedge my bet.

Interesting.

do you make dumb comments on a whim?

he obviously has had a LOT OF EXPERIENCE with big, expensive suvs. and seems to KNOW both LCs and LXs rank at the very top.

buying an '07 LX because he feels it's better than the '08 is a smart precaution, NOT just a 'whim!'

I bought a LX470 back in March, I actually was interested in the Land Crusier initially. Land Crusiers were in scarce supply, not to mention trying to locate one with the right color and equip. I went to the Lexus dealer, they had one just the way I wanted it, the cost was just 5K more. I guess I would pay a little more for the dealer experience and better luxury appointments, std. features etc. I would definately say it is a badge engineered vehicle. Mechanically I see no difference.

They are both disguisting to look at in my opinion.

The new LC doesnt even deserve to be called new. Its the same friggin' thing, with 10 year old stlying, and costs way more at least here in the UAE. It actually costs almost as much as an escalade. (250k dhs for the LC, 270k dhs for the Escalade) The interior is the biggest disapointment. Its worse than the old one, and Im not even kidding. Cheap plastic EVERYWHERE like the centre console, door knobs etc..

And thats not it! The engine is the same from the old generation! 4.7l V8 270hp (What age are they living in?!) and even though this may be only here in the UAE, its still a very stupid move, especially at this kind of price! The more I see of those on the street, the more I realise how many Toyota badge w****s we have in here!

The LX has better options, better everything, except the rear end which is one of the ugliest I have ever seen on an SUV. Good car, but the price is very steep.

"It actually costs almost as much as an escalade."

It's $7K more than the GL450 and Escalade, respectively.

In the US, of course.

and 10 years down the road, it will be WORTH $14k more than a same age escalade!

and have cost $7+ LESS to keep in repair. ;)

toyota QUALITY and RELIABILITY DO come at premium prices (in some markets). even having the 4.7 instead of the newer 5.7 makes little difference, for vehicles just getting fully broken in at 10 years of age.

(how many DECADES did the LC build and retain its reputation with just the old six banger?)

Yes, and thats probably because in the UAE it comes with the 4.7l V8 carry over from the last generation, which is a total joke. 270hp...!!!

But even with that, the escalade is 20k dhs more... which is.... about $6k. The car is a rip-off. You should sit in one to realise how cheaply made it is. Even new, the plastic cracks.

obviously you are a sorehead considering vw/audi is AT THE OPPOSITE POLE from toyota with respect to reliability! LOL!

average age at which the mfgr's products get 100 problems per 100 vehicles: audi/vw 5.2 years (even Hyundai does better). toyota ~17 years!

like the vehicles themselves, the TRUE FACTS posted by toyota/lexus aficionados OUTLAST the belittling tripe posted by naysayers.

with NOTHING of significance left to say, they finally shut up.
