Mini CEO: Mini SUV to be called ‘Crossman’

So far we’ve known the upcoming Mini SUV, or SAV, as the Mini Colorado. However in a recent conversation with Auto Motor und Sport, Mini’s CEO said that the Colorado is only the cars working title. When the next Mini variant hits the roads in 2010, it may carry the name ‘Crossman.’

I'd wager that they want it to be thought of as more a CrossOver vehicle than an all out SUV.

Mini has a long history of using the suffix MAN on their 'specialty' offerings (think Mini ClubMan)-

A station wagon by any other name .Yes, we have heard the term SUV like a household word anywhere , but ,really, have you ever heard anyone say , I bought a new CUV or a new crossover ? This one really gets me , a multi use vehicle or MUV . Kinda make you wonder what it looks like before you even see it.
