Report: Next-generation Volvo XC90 canceled
Despite all the hype and launch plans made for the end of 2009, Volvo has canceled the next-generation XC90. According to a report by Auto Motor Sport, source close to AMS Sweden say that the decision to cancel the next Volvo XC90 was made a few days ago and suppliers have yet to be informed.

The decision was based by taking into account the increased cost in production that would have to go in to make the SUV more fuel-efficient. Ford is...

From a space-utilization standpoint, the XC-90 is the best 7 seater mid-sized SUV out there. It has a real 3rd row (unlike the X5 and MDX and even the LX470/570) and it drives satisfactorily for most people, esp with the V8. It is a also priced right.

I don't blame Volvo/Ford for not messing with the formula as there is likely no business case to justify it.

Really really nice vehicle that left us far too soon...

Volvo is not cancelling it, they just seem to have decided to defer the development of a new one for the near future.

Not a good move. XC90 is a really nice and decent SUV and priced right. It's the best selling Volvo here in Middle East.

btw saying XC90 has real 3rd row seats unlike LX470/570 is funny. Just look at their size/category mate. LX is full size compare to XC90 which is a midsize.

But that doesn't mean the LX's third row isn't useless... some SUVs are desperately space inefficient.

Come on congress!...mandate some other stuff for us americans.

Things always turn out great when either the President or Congress mandate stuff for us pesants.

Funny I thought the Ford Expa-subdivision would take the hit first not the attractive XC90 ...HA who am I kidding Ford has been looking for a way to off load Volvo...guess this is just the second step. The first was when they ended the R platform.

I personally don't think SUV's should be made anymore. Noone needs one...if you need a family hauler and want the safety of AWD, get a CUV or wagon . If you need to haul cargo...get a truck. You dont need a HUMMER/Excursion/Expidition/Yukon/Navigator/Armada/etc... anymore. And for those who say they need to carry more stuff than the smaller CUV's and waggons can carry...that's why cars have roof racks...get a storage conainer. Heck the rest of the world has been managing to do this for years.

THAT BEING SAID. I would not FORCE my view on society in any way shape or form. It is for society to deciede which way it wants to go and for the politicians to enforce the will of the people. Not the politicians.

Sort of like how we have Corn based E85 now...whoops thats another post.

Isnt the XC a unibody? Not all that great off road? Isn't it based off the S60/S80?

This shouldn't happen. The XC90 is one of Volvo's best products to date.

Volvo service guy tells me that he's replaced more tranny's in XC90s than any other Volvo. The tranny is GM unit that develops a leak in the coolant lines and then contaminates the tranny fluid. I was having my R serviced when I noticed 4 XC90s on lifts for the same reason. Oops.
