Photo Renderings: 2010 VW Beetle gets larger in size

Well it has been confirmed many times by Volkswagen that the new Volkswagen Scirocco won’t make it to the stateside. Worry not - Volkswagen has something else in store for us that will fill the spot of the Scirocco. The reinvented Beetle, which hit US markets in 1998, is in need of a major redesign after sales remain to be sluggish. Now the redesign Volkswagen Beetle is on schedule to debut in 2010.

The 2010 Volkswagen Beetle will try and ditch the whole Herbie ‘aww that’s so cute’ look and will be offered in three different variants including a sedan, convertible and a roadster/speedster. The car will be designed in California and will be engineered in Germany where it will be built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Rabbit and the upcoming Volkswagen Scirocco.

Good point about the Karmann Ghia. I could never figure out why they stopped selling it. I think they should keep the Beetle however as it has very comfortable seats and interior room -- a good bang for the buck.

what's happening to the front fascia of VW/Audi lately. They r keen to put that big frame which in my opinion spoil the otherwise good look.

Isn't that VW Up concept inspired photoshop.

Aside from the "sedan" rendering looking much like the current Beetle I have to agree with kaizerzozedud. VW has a golden opportunity to bring back the Karmann Ghia or at least bring in some Ghia design into the Beetle replacement.I'm not getting that black outline in the front bumper at all.If that's supposed to look cool sombody must be smokin some interesting stuff.

Ok-The front is supposed be from the "VW UP". And this is supposed to be more aggressive.I still think sombody is smokin some interesting stuff.

Sorry, but that 'rendering' is Way Off The Mark...

The next Beetle is to have a more aggressive/fastback profile, not this re-hash of the rehash that is the current model.

I don't know which one needs a decent restyling more: the Beetle of the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

They're both rather 'timeless' in both concept and design, but the PT has the advantage of being exponentially more practical as an actual daily driver.

I can see the PT Cruiser quickly becoming an American Classic...

I don't envy the task of redesigning a classic...it's tough! (I don't particularly like the design, but I have nothing in common with the buyer's demographic and I will recognize it as a classic)

Unless it's got a flat 4 in the back, it's a beetle in name only IMO.
