Is the Infiniti G37 Sedan coming for 2009?

The Infiniti G37 coupe offers a 330HP VQ37VHR engine, but it's 200 lbs more than the sedan and thus it essentially offers no advantage in performance. Is the 2009 G37 sedan just around the corner? Car and Driver seems to think so, "a G37 sedan, rumored for release in ’09 with 330 horsepower—a full 100 more than the 328i, and for less money—could make a compelling case."

With as much horsepower as the coupe and 200 less pounds to carry around, a G37 sedan could make a compelling case for itself, especially against it's quicker main rival, the BMW 335i. Bonus's would be, quicker throttle response, smoother operation, and better fuel economy as well with the VVEL system.

Once a car gets rolling, the weight shouldn't matter as much. I would assume that the G37 would walk on the G35 eventually. I'd love to see a mid to high-end race between the two.

I would also love to see the same race with 335i vs G37 on the highway. Off the line I know 335i has more torque and fuller powerband but G37 has better gearing and develops up to 293whp so I wonder if there would be a difference on a rolling start.

Adam you're wrong and Vandetta you're absolutely right.

I owned a BMW and now own an Infiniti...For the same price it was a choice between the G37S and 328i coupe. So yes infiniti won me over this time and I didn't feel like I was downgrading by getting the G37 one bit.

I hope they up the torque a bit. Everything I've read indicates the heavier G37 coupe is no faster than the old G35 coupe. Would like to see something noticeable in the sedan. .2 extra liters should have given more than just 330hp with no increase in torque.

Infiniti needs a G27, not a G37.
What about those that want a good handling car, AND that gets good gas mileage? I recently bought the Lexus IS250, which has good, but not explosive acceleration and I get 23.5 mpg city and 34.5 highway.

Infiniti is more about pure performance, and I'm sure there's a taboo with putting a "2" after "G" based on how underpowered the G20 was (still a good little car).

The IS250 is somewhat anemic, especially in AWD form (more weight). A 0-60 of 8.0 seconds is far too slow to compete - I imagine Lexus will bump the power before the next IS generation.

You do bring up a good point regarding fuel economy for the fleet average. An 'entry level' G could help if executed well.

Also, the G coupe should use some lighter materials to bring that weight down. A 100-200lbs. drop in weight would drive up the price, but if it's quicker, it's worth it.

BTW, I'm not dissing the IS250. Nice car, I actually almost bought one (with the X-package, handled extremely well). Although most of the competition is quicker off the line, (the C300 is a full second quicker compared to the out-going C230 for example).

Nissan already offers a Skyline with a 3.0l engine. It makes 225hp and offers incredible gas mileage. I read somewhere that it made 30+Mpg and over 500 miles on one tank. The engine is already offered so what would it take to offer it in the use. My guess is additional emissions will reduce mpg to just below 30 but it is well worth it. It offers more hp then the IS250 too and better mpg numbers. I say to Nissan offer it as a G30.

Especially when the Audi A4 2.0T quattro and BMW 328xi can attain 6.5 sec 0-60 times each. I don't know how Lexus managed to make the IS250 so much slower than the competition. Love the 350, though.

I agree. They should offer a car with less power to take on the 328. My mom hates driving my G35 because it has to much power for her. It could even be around 5k cheaper for a smaller engine and go up against the more expensive 1 series and TSX.

Infiniti really doesn't have anything efficient. That's a shame, but they are really marketed as performance vehicles, besides the QX that is. As for the G37 sedan, I can't wait. I kind of saw this coming in 2009. Anyone know if the 350Z will get the VQ37VHR?

Yes, although the G35 stopped shorter, was quicker to 60 and the 1/4 mile, and was higher .G on the skidpad. But the BMW feels better to them.

guys here in middle East we already get the 330BHP G35 Sedan. I am driving one.

And i think Middle East was the first market outside Japan which got the all new 2008 G Sedan, witch also saw the the new 330 BHP engine.

got the 08 g35 sedan and love it. didnt care for bmw or the slow lexus is.
