Honda confirms NSX for 2010

Honda has recently confirmed speculation that its next-gen Acura NSX will arrive over a year later than the expected 2008-2009 timeframe earlier suggested by CEO Takeo Fukui. The news comes after president of Honda America Tetsuo Iwamura let slip that the car will arrive in 2010 and said “we are developing it without any delay.”

A report from Ward’s Auto suggests that the U.S. could be the first market to receive the sports car ahead of its home market Japan. “In case of the introduction order, at this moment I can’t tell, but the U.S., you know, has a majority of the (Acura) customers – that (is something) you have to think about,” Iwamura was quoted as saying.

So far little is known about the NSX, with a credible concept yet to be released. Honda did unveil the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept (pictured) in Detroit earlier this year and a production version was expected for Tokyo, but this was not to be as the concept was called for a redesign. What is known is that it will feature an all new V10 and is expected to be more of a luxury GT than the high-tech supercar the previous model was.

That's so true, this looks more like what a Corvette should be, and the real new NSX should've kept its current design and expanded on it, unless both of the LF-A and NSX are aiming at the Masarati, Ferrari 559, and SLR (Although they kick ass), but to me these cars are just expensive coupes, the real nasty exotic designs are those like the Lamborgini Ferarri Enzo/430, Porsche GT, etc...

You got to be kidding! The car pictured above was such a design failure that is sent Acura back to the drawing board. The new NSX may have some styling cues but thats all.

On the Corvette, on of the advantages it has over the last NSX, it is a sales success, not a dismal failure.

Even if they do build it, it won't be a true NSX. The last NSX was a v6, mid engined car with RWD. You might think there's no market for a v6 super car anymore, but don't forget the Skyline and 997 Carrera. Plus, there's bound to be a weight advantage gained by using a v6 instead of a v10...'neways, the original NSX was built out of pride for Honda's super-successful F1 campaign in the 1980's it seems that Honda is building this new NSX only because they feel a need to compete with companies like Lexus.

I agree. Honda has such a rich F1 history. Maybe there is hope. For a few years when forced induction was allowed, Honda engines dominated with their turbos 6s. Imagine what they could do if they built something like a GT-R. Anyways, the article speculates about a GT type car, it's not known that it will be. RIP Soichiro. RIP Ayrton Senna. If they were alive today, they would def go midengine.

I am so disappointed by this news. GT luxury super car is not what the NSX should be. Call it something else! Call it QSX or XXX or something because it's a perversion of the NSX heritage.

I just realized the article is speculating. He says what is known is that the car will be more like a GT. That was the ASC concept. It's not known if the car will be GT or midengine... So there's still hope.

Acura at the current moment is so far behind Lexus and Infiniti. Then only thing really keeping them going is their SUV's(ok, the TL too), and even then the MDX makes up the largest portion of their sales.
Potential wise, Acura can probably beat Lexus and Infiniti. I'm not sure what the head honchos at Acura are doing, but they are taking too long a time. They need to speed up product development a lot. Acura builds some great cars when it wants to and now, more than ever they must to keep up with the competition. Hopefully, the next TSX, TL, and RL come in with full force and soon.
2010 is still some time away and with the GT-R already out and a Lexus LF-A on it's way, Acura had better get the ball rolling.....and fast.

Dave, Lexus is kept going by the RX, which is an SUV. Acura used to be and engineering superbrand (much like BMW), the exact opposite of what Lexus ever stood for. However, Acura was never good at understanding and communicating their strengths - again complete opposite of Toyota/Scion/Lexus (building hybrid hype, emphasizing customer care over technical content, etc).

They have to put together their Formula-1 development and become a top-3 team again, this will give them street cred, and the NSX may help them return to the affordable supercar class. Beating Lex does not seem a realistic goal though.

Infiniti is no worries for Acura, they can take them especially in sales. Next year will be a good year and a quick news flash Dave the GTR is not Infiniti, they have no supercar in the works.(should have been the GTR)Further more what Acura is going through now is nothing to what Infiniti went through in 2001-2002.

Definitely more expensive to develope a rear/mid engined car. Honda prolly wanted to put that cost to other aspects of the car (suspension, engine, etc). I still believe that it should remain a mid-engined car. Toyota and Honda are scrambling to match Nissan's high bench mark...GT-R.
