Spy Shots: Volkswagen Passat Coupe spotted undisguised
Earlier this month, Volkswagen released a teaser site for the upcoming Volkswagen four-door Passat Coupe. Now come these spy shots showing us the car totally undisguised going under some cold-weather testing alongside the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

What we know so far is that the Passat four-door coupe is expected to be powered by the same engine variants as the original Passat; which we find a bit disappointing. Expected to come in as a 2009 model late next year, the Passat four-door coupe is estimated to be priced between $35,000 to $45,000.

Since some dumb-ass marketing guys in the auto industry shaped and enhanced traditional terminology when they hijacked it for their devious ends.

I agree, this is getting stupid. Mercedes was the first to make the mistake and call the CLS a Coupe and now the rest are following.

ok, I agree that they are skewing the definition of "coupe" but this isn't a mistake. The MB CLS makes a lot of money for MB and looks cool. You guys don't understand the meaning of profit

Monk, people are not so stupid that they don't understand the fundamental goal of a business; however, there is a huge difference between making an honest profit by delivering value for the customer's dollar and misrepresenting value by weasel wording the marketing message.

Lexus GS + Mercedes CLS = Passat Coupe?

This looks like a "Copy & Paste" job from the guys at VW. Not bad looking, but it would have been nice if any originality was used during its design.

I wager that this vehicle will be less successful (in sales) than the (40k+) Passat W8 4Motion Sport.

Hopefully the VW group will come to its senses and realize that VW should never venture anywhere near AUDI territory - in price or concept.

The real coupes like Honda Accord Coupe and Nissan Altima coupe...etc looks much better.

instead of this passat, VW should have better worked on and bring the rumoured Audi A7 to the market.

Perhaps the Passat R36 engine will find its way into this?

LOL. Only reason I can think of for calling it a coupe is due to the small rear doors (ala RX-8); but the rear doors are not that small. So does not make sense.

Well there is definitely MBZ influence and not a bad looking car.

I noticed the article never mentioned where the new VW RWD platform this Passat will be using was developed?

There will be a RWD platform...right VW?

Because I hope you don't think anyone would buy a $45,000 FWD in todays market.

Heck even Cadillac is moving to RWD platform.

The front and 3/4 look like the current Lexus GS and the side look like MB CLS. Can't VW come up their with own design?

And please me a Favor Do NOT mention VW with MB or Lexus in the same sentence.

The eighties was a terrible decade for styling for most cars but at least the Volvo Bertone Coupe had 2 doors.
