Hyundai Motors India is all set to launch its new compact car i10. Code named as Pa, i10 has already completed road test in the.... Colorado route and India. The four seater Pa was spotted randomly on a winding road, along with a Peugeot, VW, BMW Wagon. No One Understands why Companies are testing in The USA. Could it be a sign that teh i110 is coming to America? Probably not. It's Indian.

It’ll be the first car in the A-segment to get air conditioning as standard; electric front windows, central locking, electric power steering, tinted glass, 14in alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers and a six-speaker CD player also as standard. The i10 will roll out in four variants - Hyundai i10 D-Lite, Hyundai i10 Era, Hyundai i10 Magna and the automatic version Hyundai i10 D-Auto.

The i10 boasts of revolutionary Intelligent Responsive Drive Engine (iRDE), a 1.1L powerhouse with many technological innovations. It has been designed to give you superior output, while at the same time offering the best mileage in its class.

The i10 comes with a unique centre console mounted gear shift, a sement first. The i-shift transmission takes away all the strain from the aching arm resulting from long drives, while at the same time liberating greater legroom for the front seat passengers.

The i10 will have a sunroof, rear spoiler, rear wipers. The i10 has 94 per cent local content, while Santro has 86 per cent.

Still, This ugly car is not winning any hearts in India.

i10 is already available in India and neighbors.

I know because here in UAE, I get the the Asian version of Ten Sports (TV Channel) and i have seen quite a few times i10's add together with it's starting price written somewhere at the bottom of the screen.

some really narrow minded viewpoints in here - so if it's made in India it must by default be poor quality!?

The factory may be in India, but it conforms to Hyundai standards exactly as it would for a home Korean factory, or an American Hyundai Factory. The choice of India reflects the size of that market, and represents a more economic supply logistic chain than producing in any other current Hyundai factory. The workforce is trained to the same standards and will include more than just Indian employees, and unless the products produced there meet the standards, they won't be distributed for global retail. the Indian Hyundai factory has successfully been producing Amica/Atoz/Santro for some time, and the quality level (which is not the same thing as saying how good a product actually is) is right on par with any other Hyundai vehicle.

As for testing in North America - this will be part of the quality programme, evaluating temperature extremes etc. Something that is typical of the vast majority of automakers where testing in cold and hot temperature extremes is essential in new product development. It bears no correlation to where the product will be sold, rather, it relates to where on a global scale the required testing can be completed within the most economic scale.

Hyundai will have some stiff competition form Tata. Since the economy and education in India is booming and as per wikipedia its nominal per capita GDP has just surpassed Kenya and Nigeria and it’s almost on par with Zimbabwe, also the literacy rate has dramatically increased and its almost at 72% for men and 44% for women. As a result India’s Tata Corporation is expanding and came up with a new aggressive sales strategy called ATP aka Animal Trade-in Program. Where you can trade in your donkey or goat and receive a 12000 rupee discount for a donkey and 10000 rupee discount for a goat towards a new Tata. This translates on average to about $250 in savings towards the car which will cost about 120000 rupees or $3000. By 2013 Tata expects 80000000 of these marvels of Indian engineering on India’s roads. In the mean time Tata is hoping to acquire Jaguar to bolster its name and steal western technology so they can start selling their $5000 Tata’s world wide by 2015.

India has been proof of the dangers of protectionism as it relates to competitiveness in the marketplace.
(A carryover from Gandhi..who taught that technology was bad..a bit of a "Luddite")

If you wanted a car in India, you basically had one choice...a early to mid 1950's design..a ripoff of some nondescript British Austin...Built by a "quasi state owned" auto company.

Then the government in the late '80s early '90s started loosing their stranglehold on the economy ...not by much..still no "imported cars or manufacturers" but a notification of "Prepare for Export"

If you look closely, the manufacturing goods are designed by firms from Coventry to Tokyo.

What does this mean to North America? Those 1.2 billion Indians are going to have an increasingly higher standard of living..while every American administration since Reagan have been moving us closer to an ever DECREASING standard of living, if for no other reason than the resource "pie" is getting smaller and smaller.
