Japanese Spec Nissan GT-R Gets Tamed- What about US Spec?

Picture this you driving along in your new GT-R in Japan and you get a huge open stretch of highway to open up the fury of Godzilla. Would you be somewhat peeved to find out that the new GT-R is going to hold you at 180km? The guys over at the GT-Channel have just reported that the Japanese spec GT-R 's GPS /electronics system limit the top speed on every day roads to 180 km , which comes out to around 110 mph. We guess the new GT-R is so much of a beast that it had to be tamed on Japanese roads.

What happens though when you get to the track? The GT-R's electronics system and GPS communicate with each other giving one very satisfying result- No speed limiter at all so you can let the GT-R breathe fire.

What happens for United States drivers ? You 'll be happy to know that they are limited to 250 km (156 mph) meaning you get a little more top speed than Japanese GT-R drivers. We are sure though that when you hit the track, the GT-R will act right and let you feel the full power/top speed of the GT-R.

That just stupid limiting it true potential and now the owner of the car has to take it to a tuner. I wish they would of leave it at 196 mph or 197 mph like the way it is.

I think that they limit it because they know people would try out the top speed on the road.

thats because in Japan, authorities are after those who race them on the freeways. crazy bunch. the chief engineer of the gtr said in the current issue of automobile mag says that there is a "black box", in which it will be very difficult to mess around w/ the electronics. if ever possible, then the warranty will be voided.

not to mention, lots of the sports cars made in Japan are ltd to 180k/ph, or 115 mph, probably for emission reasons(?)

I read about this on another blog--so cool! It knows when you're at a track, and does away with the speed limiter! IMO it should be in every high-tech sports car!

1) The Japan version of the GTR faces the restrictions of that country as well as the warranty provisions that the manufacturer is ready to provide and service --over THERE.

2)Pricing varies from country to country as well and a high end car could cost double what the same car costs in another country.

3) A Tuner proof ECU --lol .

Conclusion -- Now I am not saying that Nissan isn't laying down a lot of "rules" about this vehicle but what I am saying is that once a customer buys a car HE owns the car NOT Nissan .
