Mitsubishi hopes BMW and Audi buyers will look at new Evo

The upper managment might wish this but I tell you, if they don't change the attitude of the dealers, who think the Evo is god's gift to cars, they will not sway anyone. I went last year to test drive one and the guy wouldn't even let me sit in one. Why would I go back when I can go to BMW, Merc, Audi, or Porsche and drive anything? We finally settled on a G35x (picked up a cheap lease) but I would have liked to compare.

Why would anyone even want to sit in a car that is available with manual transmission only and when the automatic that is offered in lesser models is a dreaded CVT?

I like the new EVO X but they screwed up its price and performance. Why would anyone pay the same amount of money for a modified Lancer (complete with budget interior), when they could get a G37 at that price? The G37 also outperforms the Evo and is light years ahead in refinement.

Who ever wrote this is very narrow-minded. why would anyone want to get an Evo if they were looking for BMW or Audi. The only thing they have in common is similar performance...

When I first saw the asking price of the new Evo ($39,000), I thought that Mitsubishi was arrogant or overly confident that they have made the perfect car and priced it so. Big mistake.

If I were to purchase a Japanese car over the German cars at this price range, I would undoubtedly choose the Infinity G37. For $40,000 I would take the BMW 335i, or the 135i over the Evo.

But with that said, I would choose the Nissan GT-R over the M3, Audi RS4, and the Mercedes C63 AMG any day.

Forget it! Real Bimmerphiles won't even look at a Mitsubishi...we do have our standards. However, Audi lovers may like it.

huu76...the E46 is 325, 330, or M3, and I don't think the $41K I spent on my Bimmer is cheap. The definition of Bimmerphile is one that loves and enjoys BMWs, it does not depend on the price of the car.

I think there is nothing wrong if Mitsubishi executives think like that.

I'll definately choose the Evo over the S3, A4, 1 series, 3 series (except 335i), IS250/300....etc

btw who said it's only a modified lancer. How narrow minded. Then what is M3, RS4, IS-F? They are also modified versions.

Atleast Evo has more racing success and heritage then those mentioned.

Audi owners are actually wealthier than their BMW counterparts. If anything, BMW owners should be looking at the Mitsubishi Evo

I was a little taken aback when I read $39K for the MR. Drop that price $5K and their sales figures might be reached. Also, I was shocked when I saw the interior. I thought I was back in the mid 1980s. They must have pulled that instrument panel from an 1985 Mitsu sedan.

The BMW interiors aren't that bad. While not the greatest quality the BMW interiors are decades ahead of any Lancer interior. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Also, The IS350 interior is so so IMO. Lexus is good at making cheap look expensive. The same goes for Acura (to some extent)

Drop by $10K and just maybe...

This new model is slower than the previous model it's replacing.

I'll pick the EVO or the STi any day over a G35 or 3 series, both of which are just regular sport sedans, but the mitsu and the su ba ru are total insane machines, although i hear that the new ones are more civilized. I want a bit drama after a hard day's work and the mitsu can give me that.

A 335i MT with 306hp/300lb and traction control off will give you plenty or drame when u want it, and refinement when you have passengers.

LexSucks are you a total moron, when did you see me compare a G35 to the 335i, I just said that i would like the EVO over the G35 or the 3 series, and by that i meant something like a 328i not the 335i, i never said that i would choose G35 over the 335i.

I wish for a Ferrari Enzo too, and the odds of either happenning are about the same. I saw the new Lancer from the outside, and it looks like a cheap toy (i am speaking about its performance mind you). I have a 335i and so if I am the type of customers they are trying to attract, they have a lot to learn. If I went for a Japanese car, I would either get the Infiniti G or the Lexus IS depending on whether I wanted a sportier car or a prettier one. I would still get a BMW or Audi over either of them.

Mitsu gets a C for effort, while Infiniti and Lexus both gets A.

as for the 335i, im car shopping now but it seems its near impossible to find one that doesnt sticker for 48-49k. no good =(

You cant find a 335 that doesn't sticker at around $48-49K? hogwash!! I could go to the dealer now and take some pictures of the stickers and email them to you. 335s sticker at around $43-45k. You can build a decent one at BMW's website.

stop looking at the coupe, and you can walk away with the 335i sedan for under $40k. I have to admit though, the tail on the sedan is ugly as piss...the coupe is way sexier. If you decide on a sedan, you'd probably be better off with the IS350 with the sport package.

If you're a coupe only person, go with the 328i coupe and you should be able to get most of the additional features, with the exception of navigation, for around $40k.

The EVO may be a good car, but we talking about to totally different types of buyers here. If you walked up to 10 people today and asked them which they would prefer, an EVO, BMW 3-series, or an Audi A4. 9(maybe all 10) of those people would ask you, "what's an EVO?". Mitsubishi has to understand that the EVO is still just a cult following. Now go ask 10 more people of they would prefer a "supped up Lancer", a 3-series, of an A4. I can't really see anyone going for the EVO, unless you're a true driving/car aficionado, and even then it's 50/50 at best. The EVO's just not nice enough, that's why it's still looked at as a kids car. Fun to drive, but that's about it.

Well-There are some things wrong with the EVO at $39 grande. For one it does not have a $39 grande interior.More leather surfaces inside would certainly help. Also richer quality plastics and a higher quality steering wheel. Then there is the boy racer spoiler out back. A BMW or and Audi either don't have them or they are far more discreet with them.Truefully Mitsubishi is simply charging too much,especially for the MR.I think they are going to end up discounting both models to get them to move.One of the appeals of the previous versions as well as the Subaru STI was the "bang for the buck" in terms of performance.This car is meant to be in the low 30's fully optioned out. That's it's price range. Mazda understands this for the Miata only too well.Once you move into the 40 grande range most Jap performance cars will not sell. Look what happened to the previous Toyota Supra and previous Nissan 300ZX Turbo.If this car where a midsize car that competed with the Mazda 6 and Accords etc. you might make a case for it. But even Mazdapeed 6 is not being replaced. I'm also certain that Subaru's legacy spec B had a similar problem.Nope they need to reprice the EVO or it will be a flop. The Ralliart can't come soon enough!

The funny thing about the supra though, is that it's worth every penny, and many more. The new EVO is comparative to selling beer at champagne prices.

I see why now the new Evo X is softer, fatter, less-focused and not to mention slower. Mitsubishi is trying to attract BMW/Audi owners. It all make sense now.
