Nissan begins taking GT-R orders in the U.S.
So it’s finally 2008 and we hope you had a very Happy New Year. As reported before, Nissan is ushering in the New Year with the new Nissan GT-R. If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the first GT-R to ever be sold in North America, head over to your local Nissan dealership because the Japanese automaker is now taking orders.

Nissan will be producing only 12,000 units of the GT-R in 2008, 6,000 of which are for the Japanese market...

If anyone has the inclination to visit a Nissan dealership in your area...I'd be curious to know what they are asking for the car.

My Nissan dealership is saying between 10k-20k above sticker.

SoCal and high demand >_<

At least I'm number 2 on the list ^_^

If I won this car in a contest I would immediately sell it and get a good looking car.

I would get a BMW 335i Convertible.

I don't care about the performance.

I thought you said you wanted a good looking car? Ooo zing!

But srsly, the 335i is pretty weird looking in person.

I went into Ford the other day, and they had a GT500 still going 30k over sticker. It felt good to tell every sales person that came up to me that they were all greedy theives!
I love the GT500, but id never pay a penny over msrp.

Nissan should punish those stealerships who marked up the price that high. They should not allocate any GT-R to them after the initial batch of allocations. All GT-Rs will be sold, so only those who play by the rules should get them.

I find it funny that every post I read about how a manufacturer should handle the dealerships.

Why would Nissan bite the hand that feeds them?

Who is Nissan's customer? You, I don't think so. It's the dealer! The auto manufacturer makes a stupid amount of money on these vehicles selling them to the dealer, then the dealer gets a couple of thousand dollars to work with when pleasing their customers, and finally you see where you come into the equation.

By saying that they are going to do anything to discourage or prevent the dealer from doing this is simply to take themselves off the hook for building a vehicle at a total of 1500 knowing that it will cause this type of premium.

When a car has a premium attached to it, it actually helps the brand. Walk into a Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc.... store outside of SoCal, and see how easy it is to get a discount on these vehicles.

It is pretty damn tough, why? Because all of these brands produce just enough vehicles for the dealers to keep inventory afloat. Chevy, not so much. If a dealer asks for 20 extra vehicles the manufacturer will be sure they get them, because just like a dealer looking for volume of sales, so are the manufacturers.

How do you create an air of "premium" on a brand...the manufacturer creates it, in the end all Nissan vehicles will benefit from one having a premium.

Look at Pontiac, the Solstice was selling for $10K over list, now the whole product line has more swagger, Saturn had the Sky, Saturn does the whole one price thing...so they sold the cars to themself and then turned them into used cars and sold them at a premium. Now the Aura and (soon to be) Astra are hot products.

Stop blaming dealers being the manufacturers puppets.

No. Just get something you can afford that also performs well like a 335 or G37.

My dealer who is allocated 2 GTRs has a check in hand for 80K from a local big wig. I was laughing because he has it framed in his office. I guess he has to recoup the ~100K he put in upgrades to his service dept. to even get those 2 GTRs
