Is it enough to beat GM?

Its enough to beat Ford, Toyota became the number 2 mfr for the year. It was also enough to beat Chevy, as Toyota division became the number 1 brand. Pretty freakin impressive.

When you break the numbers for Lexus down it is interesting that the ES series (which to me is more of a Buick competitior than a BMW/MB/Audi one- definitely for the 60+ age group) accounts for almost 41% of the total passenger car sales for Lexus.

And the ES/Avalon will never be a hit in the European market...that is why you won't see Lexus achieve the numbers there that the other Luxury makers get. Ain't going to happen.

Xero-you missed my point. Lexus will not repeat the sales numbers they have in the US in other markets with the ES.
If your thought is that they will do it in Europe, etc with the GS/LS - I find that very doubtful because of the price points of those vehicles and the competitive offerings of other mftrs.

The ES points out why the demographic for Lexus skews so much to older people in the US(or women with the RX -which together with the ES account for almost 57% of total Lexus sales in the US with those two vehicles)

I am always hearing from Lexus fans that they will duplicate their success they have in the US in other markets- with their dependence on the ES and an SUV I seriously doubt that is going to happen- IMO

C CLass, A4 are as sporty as ES. so who r calling a buick competitor?

The more sportier cars than these three are 3 series, IS and G.

"C CLass, A4 are as sporty as ES. so who r calling a buick competitor?"

Thats just an insult to the C-klasse and A4. The ES is no where near as sporty, perhaps the IS, but not the ES. As for GS, thats a different class bro. sorry to bring you the news. But the ES is not meant to be a sporty car either, as Lexus doesn't even remotely attempt for it to become a sporty vehicle, and if you think so, I believe you are sadly mistaken.

Youve got to be kidding... The ES just in looks alone is a bloated cow, PLUS is handles not much better than a Camry. The ES still hasnt grown on me, it seems to be the only recent Lexus that has gone totally wrong.

Perfect for 60+ buyers though, which is fine because its the vast majority of their consumer base (as per article posted here 2 months ago)

A4, C Class and ES are similar category cars as they are more towards luxury and smooth driving/cruising.

More sporty cars than these three are 3 series, IS and G35.

"Thats just an insult to the C-klasse and A4"

HAHAHA insult. Blind fanboy they r no Ferraris or Rolls. Relax

I'm not saying that the ES is a bad vehicle. You are the one who should really relax. I'm just saying that the IS, A4, 3er, C-Klasse are structured/engineered/marketed for sporty before luxury, not that they are not one more than another. The ES is engineered and marketed for luxury more than sporty.

Its so typical for immature people to go into a Toyota/Lexus posting and start talking german cars and vice versa. Grow up people.

THE A4, C-CLASS AND IS ARE SPORTY SEDANS. THEY ALL OFFER EXCEPTIONAL HANDLING AND ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

The ES is for people who don't WANT to drive, but they HAVE to.

interesting that so many fanbois make "sporty" the end-all and be-all of LUXURY cars.

"The LS 460/460 L and new LS 600h L luxury sedans reported combined December sales of 3,257 and year-end sales of 35,226 units, an increase of 79.6 percent over 2006."

THIS is what defines lexus AND the vast majority of luxury cars. while the ES and RX account for large shares of total lexus sales, neither had as dramatic an INCREASE in acceptance as the LS.

i 'spose now there will be a whole lot of claims about how the LS handles like a marshmallow compared to the S and 7.

WTF CARES, when the comparative sales figures show which is receiving the MOST ACCEPTANCE among the actual BUYERS of top line luxury cars!

while i haven't seen the latest figures, from the last ones i've seen i believe more LSs are sold in the u.s. than Ss and 7s TOGETHER.

there's NO ARGUING with success like this! regardless of what trivial points the fanbois can manage to dig up.
