Nissan Falls 2.2% While Infiniti Slides 3.5% For December, Both Post Gains For 2008

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS
· Nissan-brand vehicles saw sales of 76,900 units, a 2.2 percent decrease on a daily sales rate basis compared with last year’s 78,663 units sold.
· Sales of the all-new Rogue crossover totaled 6,288 units in its third month of sales.
· The Versa subcompact saw a record December, with sales of 6,214 units, up 49.8 percent versus the prior year.
· The Altima achieved record sales in December, with 25,151 units, including 2,977 units of Altima Coupe and 964 Altima Hybrids. The Altima also experienced a record calendar year, with 2007 sales totaling 284,762 units.
· Nissan Division sales for 2007 totaled 941,200 units, a record calendar year and a 4.5 percent increase over 2006.

INFINITI HIGHLIGHTS
· Infiniti sales declined by 3.5 percent on a daily sales rate basis for the month, with 12,655 units sold, as compared with last December’s 13,112 units.
· The all-new Infiniti EX launched with 305 units sold in its first month.
· The G Sedan experienced a record year in 2007, with sales of 54,015 units.
· Infiniti Division’s sales in 2007 reached 127,038 units, a 4.5 percent increase over 2006.

NNA INFORMATION
· Combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti of 89,555 units were down 2.4 percent compared with December 2006 sales of 91,775 units.
· For the 2007 calendar year, combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti totaled 1,068,238 units, the third consecutive year of sales exceeding 1 million units, a 4.5 percent increase over 2006.

The only reason Nissans are still around is because they own Infiniti. If they didn't own Infiniti, they would have no money. Infinitis are not that great of cars but Nissans are horrible. People buy Infinitis not Nissans.

infinities arn't that great? very nice interiors and exteriors (subjective) priced very well fun to drive almost as much as bmw good tech what else do you want them to do fly?

not to mention Most 3 series and 5 series shoppers cross shop those cars with the G35 and M35/45. Some people are are so close minded. I find most of those people think BMW is unstoppable!

Infiniti needs a FLAGSHIP (Q45, or replacement) and soon! Nissan needs to lighten up some of their designs because they are getting too bloated. Remember the 90's Maximas with "4DSC" emblems plastered on each window? That's when they were "4 Dooor Sports Cars". Now the Max, has truly Maxed out on the 'visual' weight scale and could stand a nice toning workout. The Sentra is getting very tall and boxy (a bad mix of Saturn Ion sprinked in). The 350Z just looks like it ate the old Z car for breakfast and is in need of burping. The Infiniti M is a winner, the new G is a winner. The new Altima coupe is almost a 10 (G coupe styling on a budget) but could stand to get that rear tightened up with those oversized tail lamps.

Nissan: great cars that need a new design direction.

I agree mostly with your comments. I however think the Maxima that we all used to know and love is never coming back. It seems Nissan want it to compete with the Avalon which will make it more of a luxury/sport tourer. An alternative to the M35 if you will. The Altima v6 with 6sp manual does a nice job at filling the 1990 Maxima's shoes. The next Z will be exciting especially with the 15% weight reduction. The Sentra is a lost cause as is the Quest. The Trucks just need to evolve to more competitive trucks. All the trucks are fantastic but because Nissan went the cheap route the first time around, they have allot of ground to make up reputation wise. If they do the next ones right they will be at most competitive with the Tundr sales wise. Infinti on the other hand is just doing everything right. The G the M are great. Moving the QX to the Patrol platform, the FX getting bigger with more fuel efficiency the EX is amazing and there will be a replacement for the Q, unknown what it will be called, but it sounds like it will certainly be cross shopped with the LS level cars.
