JUST IN: Audi to (Possibly) Debut Diesel R8 in Detroit!
According to Auto Motor und Sport, Audi will be debuting a diesel powered R8 at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Audi hasn’t officially said anything about a diesel R8 but has said that it will use the 2008 NAIAS to debut one production car and one concept car.

In case you guys couldn't guess, it will reportedly use the 4.2TDI from the A8 and Q7! Only 326hp... but 561lb ft of torque!

EGM says it'll get about 30MPG, which I agree with (it weighs much less than the A8 TDI, which gets about 25-30MPG), but I think their 5 sec time for 0-60 is conservative. Look for the 4.5-4.8 second range.

NOW I REALLY WANT ONE!!!!!!!!

Sounds great... speaking of "sound", I wonder what the exhaust note will sound like? Hopefully it can retain most of the character of the petrol version
