Spy Video: BMW’s PAV caught testing in Munich

With the launch of the 1-Series coupe/convertible, the M3 coupe/sedan and the X6 all scheduled for this year, BMW sure has its work cut out for 2008. However, BMW isn’t stopping there. The auto maker is now working on branching into a totally new segment, giving its lineup more than just passenger cars and SUVs.

Work is under way on the company’s first stab at an MPV-ish vehicle, or better known as Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) by BMW. The BMW PAS is expected to be powered by a choice of four, six and eight-cylinder gasoline and turbodiesel engines, available in rear-wheel-drive only.

According to AutoCar the car may carry the badge ‘V5' when it hits roads in late 2009 in the UK. U.S. will get its version sometime in 2010. Expect a concept version of the PAS at the 2008 Frankfurt Motor Show.

There's no marketing here, someone just photographed a BMW test-mule and put the pictures on the net. No car company markets their test-cars, they don't want their competitors and the public to see what the car will look like before they actually start marketing it after unveiling it!

I guess you should stick to your own two feet 'cause all car manufacturers use camo. They do that to protect certain design features from being copied or so that the vehicle doesn't appear old and stale by the time it goes on sale. Common sense should have told you that!

I hope BMW does chase the R as I am pissed at Mercedes for giving the R a silly-looking counterintuitive curve at the rear quarter window. Moreover, Mercedes should know better than to install an inherently-out-of-balance ninety-degree V6 in the R. At least BMW has the brains to make nice inherently balanced in-line 6 engines.

lol what do you have against V6 engines man? Aspecially in an R class, who cares if it's not perfectly balanced...it's not like the steering wheel or tires shake or anything lol...I know inlines are better but still.

To me, it looks like a 7 Series with a fake piece of body "paneling" attached. I may be wrong, though.

I just don't understand the point, at all. BMW shouldn't get involved in all this niche business...

I very much agree with you, I think ever since Benz came out with the CLS 4 door coupe, now everyone else is trying to come up with their own stuff...noot cool for BMW.
