Who Came Out On Top? The Good, Bad, And Ugly for 2007

2007 was a very difficult year for many of favorite manufactures, but a sign of a mature brand that is in touch with it’s core market, is the ability to make progress even in the most difficult times.

 

Several automakers did just that in 2007, probably the most notable was Toyota taking the number two spot in the US market and relegating Ford to 3rd place for the first time in its history. While the domestics may have faltered many excelled in spite of a lackluster market, and some in spite of themselves.

 

To give you a best perspective of just how 2007 played out, we have broken out the good the bad and the ugly for December and all of 2007. From this you can not only see how the major brand fared but their respective divisions as well.

Wow. I know Maybach has been suffering from slow sales but it looks like Rolls is way ahead of them in that department. A total surprise for me. (-2.2 v.s. -10.6)

I don't like the whole percentage comparison. I think that it doesn't give the proper perspective, ie. rolls royce still moved out almost twice as much as Maybach, though the percentage is down by quite a few, and does not show that. But thats that, it is what it is.

It was a hidden cell issue and has been corrected. The manufacturer totals weren't affected, just the breakouts of each of those divisions. It appears correctly now. It was erroneously reporting truck and vehicle sales in the wrong cells.

the german fanbois conveniently ignore, that with the exception of the v8 models and "magic handling," the TOYOTA Camry XLE is a better car than the a4, a6, 5- and C- series.

a MORE POWERFUL v6, FAR BETTER reliability, and similar leather and lux appts in interior.

the audis meanwhile, have ALMOST AS BAD RECORDS as vw! (it'd be EQUAL if the tauregs weren't SO BAD!) while the beemers and mercs, while not as bad, are still behind EVEN the CHEAPEST TOYOTAS in reliability.

the camrys meanwhile, have RELIABILITY just about EQUAL to lexus models.

this makes it SO IRONIC to compare the lexus ES to camrys! (SUPERIOR to many 'prestige' models) while the german trio are nearly AS BAD AS VWs!

not the SE model.

and even the v6 'slushboxes' will outdrag any of the non v8 german iron.

not to mention, ALL camrys, even the 4bangers, tend to have less problems than most cars ONE-HALF as old.

Just they way they report. If you notice Isuzu falls under GM and independently.

GM had to get rid of the old models they never sold yet paid for before the split.

Excellent report. I thought VW had a much bigger presence in the US. It would also be nice to have seen their forecast for 2007 at the begining of the year to get a true comparison of the mentality at each manufacturer.

Isuzu is surprising. GM can only hope for better sales when it produces more fuel efficient cars and reduce its dependance on Truck sales.

Sorry Agent 009, but I think the % Change figure for Volvo is wrong. Either that or the 2006 and 2007 figures are around the wrong way.

How long before we get worldwide figures? I am hoping GM fought off Toyota's challenge in what has been an extremely tight battle all year.
