2008 McLaren MP4-23 Is Revealed
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes today presented the MP4-23, the team’s 2008 Formula 1 car, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The first design meeting for the MP4-23 took place back in November 2006 with early layout work starting in March 2007. Lewis Hamilton, Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett had their provisional seat fittings for the MP4-23 back in September 2007. Heikki Kovalainen was fitted for his seat shortly after being announced as a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver. The car build process for chassis 1 began in early December 2007 and was finished in early January 2008. Throughout the development process 150 different engineers have been involved in the whole project in all disciplines. 14000 engineering man hours have so far been put into the MP4-23 development project. A similar number applies to the manufacturing man hours involved to produce the MP4-23 in time for its track debut on the 9th January 2008. The MP4-23 is an evolution of the MP4-22 and as such there is no significant visual difference currently, however between now and the first race in Australia there are planned upgrades on most of the aerodynamic surfaces, wings, bodywork, bargeboards and additional bodywork components.

Rosko please tell us something about the Mclaren's biggest cheating in the Motorsport histoy, the fine, the company apologizing after months of denial. Please.

I know u know a lot about cars and racing...etc especially toyota/Lexus. so please tell us something about Mclaren and what they have done.

Hope this car will propel Mclaren to Constructor's title. Should be a good battle with Ferrari and BMW.

Its nice to know that a company, who paid 50M Pound fine and was hit with a ban on constructor's points can rebound back and move forward. Good for them. Too bad the same cannot be said for some of the idiotic fanboys who still lingers and takes pride in living in the past and rejoicing at other's tragedy.

yes, I am not making excuses. I'm just glad to see them put it behind them. However, those who have nothing better to do but bathe in other's misery are idiots. The is the past. Give it a rest.

I truly believe that Hamilton will not be as good as he was in 07 because of two reasons.

1. Inter/intra team rivalry. Because he is now "senior" to Mclaren than is Heikki, he will feel a little too comfortable, and will not be as hungry for the title, as when he was constantly pushing against Alonso, as well as outsiders like Raikkonen and Massa. I think the rivalry was the reason Hamilton was excelling, not that he is a bad driver, but extra pressure gives him extra boosts.

2. I think Alonso's insights and technical wisdom really helped Mclaren engineer a car that was superb. I think that having insights from a world champion really helps develop a car, and he was able to benefit from it.

I'm not saying that he is not a great driver, which he is, I just think that he is lacking the technical experience/expertise that Alonso brought to the team, and he is lacking the competition from within the team. My opinions.
