Why would you compete in a local racing that doesn't even broadcast worldwide. It does not make sense for marketing.

If anything, it will start in JDM first.

Why does DTM count? They aren't even representative of the cars they are based on, being 'shadow racers' means they are just a carbonfibre/kevlar body on a bespoke spaceframe.

Practically zero production, or production based parts.

Many race series are not representative of what is on the street. The DTM series is important for these manufacturers because they get a chance to test new engines, suspensions, etc.

Lexus in europe doesnt mean much. Probably less then hyundai. So it is really needed that they make a step into EU racetracks and championships.

America is a different story. DTM means 0 there, Lexus means heaps.

Lexus in some European racing series would be very good publicity - they need it.

I just don't understand why u people waste so much time arguing over silly sh*t. Everyone has an opinion. Hell, I don't give a fat rats a** if you don't like my cars. I bought them for me not to impress. I'm also a true car enthusiast. I love cars. I thought that this was this type of site but we have a bunch of manufacturer whores who only like their own personal brand that they own..hell, if you even own one.

Like Toyota being in Nascar means nothing to me - I have no idea what Nascar actually is.

However I can't say I'm familiar with DTM, although Audi, Merc and BMW have all offered DTM special editions of their cars here in Britain. The UK has always been the odd one though, probably because we're an island.

Lexus trying to take on Audi and MB in DTM! Now that's the best joke of the day. Fantasy Island was cancelled decades ago...someone should tell that to Toyota.

dtm budgets are reported in the 10 millions range whereas toyota has been spending around 400 million a year for their efforts in formula 1.

i think it's about time that lexus takes the deutche automotive market seriously and invest enough in their advertisement budget.

besides, dtm needs another constructor in its series. it'll be more exciting that way. japanese participation in the dtm can bring the series further abroad. isn't that what the germans have been considering all this time?

don't get me wrong, lexus probably won't be winning any podiums soon, but it'll be cool to watch.

And they have been so successful in F1. Let's keep Toyota and Lexus separate for argument's sake. Toyota does F1. Lexus does some Rolex thing or other. It takes more than money to win races. You have to have the tradition of doing so over decades and have that ingrained in your brand's DNA. Lexus has to earn credibility by racing against proven powers before it can state that it deserves respect in this area. Sorry, lexiboys but you have to start at the bottom and earn it. Europeans love racing. It is a continental pasttime for them. The DTM draws hundreds of thousands of fans to the races. Lexus in DTM. I am not sure Germans would like such a mutt on their tracks.

right... you seemed to forget toyota/lexus' efforts in jgtc. cars in jgtc are way more expensive, faster with higher limits, more competitive than dtm has ever tried to achieve in motorsports. toyota has succeeded in jgtc in the past, and they could do so in dtm.

germans definitely won't like lexus on the track, and this problem is similar to toyota's decision to join nascar. the difference is toyota has a huge presence in the US. it is a japanese brand that built millions of cars every year in the US, supporting american families. i wish i could say the same about toyota's presence in europe.

and no, you don't need tradition and history in dtm to win races. only gaining respect does. and lexus definitely has a long way to go.

but don't talk like toyota has no experience in motorsports, because that would be just plain ignorant.
