Taking On The Big Boys: ALMS Lexus IS-F Race Car To Debut At Sebring 12 Hour Endurance Event

This Friday at the Tokyo Auto Salon Lexus will pull the covers off their latest IS race car. The IS 350 GT2 is powered by a 470+ hp V6 engine and will compete in the American GT2 LeMans Series and not in the German DTM series as many had hoped here in Europe.

The Lexus IS 350 GT2 will make its first appearance at the Twelve Hours of Sebring in Sebring, Fl this March 15-18. Competition will be stiff with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Panoz Esperante, Ferrari F430 GT, Dodge Viper Competition Coupe and BMW M3.

I know... I read about it like 2 years ago on the ALMS website, when BMW was still in the ALMS. Its about time...

Stop this meaning less coments, lets just c how they do, if they do well, kudos 4 proving themselves, if not, better luck next time

Well they can't do any better than last year in ALMS.

But this is now a different car now and a lot of the research used in the Japanese racing series can probably be applied. I wouldn't count them out.

After all Audi beat BMW in the touring car class, who would have thought that?

I should have said in Speed World Racing that typically accompanies the ALMS racing.

Rosko you think that lexus got to where it is without effort? Do you actually think that you can beat MB and BMW in sales just like that(in america)? They are well established brands with a great image you cant beat them without effort. BMW MB Audi didn't get where they were without effort and neither did any other company which is prospering.

According to you lexus beat them because of value what is wrong with that? You should get the most car for your money. The 3 series hardly costs more than an IS and and same with c class. In My opinion the germans excluding audi cost more just for the name. i'm not saying that they are bad cars but you have to pay more for the name just like you pay more for a lexus badge over acura infiniti etc. which i think is wrong. What excuse is there for MB charging 83k when for the s class when audi and lexus and sell there comparative cars for much less and still make a very good profit. S class is a great vehicle and a admire the car very much but the price is just crazy.

lexus started selling globally 2-3 years ago so how can you expect them to match the sales of the giants like MB and BMW even Audi? You just have a blind hatred for lexus for no obvious reason.

But i agree with you when you say the ls600h is not worth what it costs and that lexus messed up on that but it still sells well and that is all they needed to make it do. But i have 1 question was every car that the germans made a great one? I highly doubt it, they all made mistakes and they will all make mistakes in the future cause they are all made by humans and it is in our nature to make mistakes!

It just makes no sense. I'm not advocating an argument, but the price are built into the cars for a reason. I'm just saying that I saw a G35 with a space saver spare tire (aka donut).

With all this talk about the Lexus-killer from Hyundai, I'm dying to see how Auto Spies and the rest of the media puts the spin on Lexus doing more racing now, and putting out sportier products. Who would have imagined Lexus-F nad Le Mans racers for the brand 20 years ago?

zairnaim..if you notice, most people that criticize lexus do it because they are infatuated with german cars..they rarely have anything constructive to say..alot of them believe that cars have a soul, lmao...honestly, i think its jealousy

rosko i don't think you realize it but you are a german version of these lexus fans you are making fun of. I personally have not read any of your comments that say anything good about any brand that is not german.

yes they do get very annoying at times there are some german ones who get on peoples nerves aswell like midengine. In my opinion some fans from most brands get very annoying. I just read some of your other comments and i apologize for saying that you are like them. Are you sure it was daharder who said the rolls royce and bentley thing? Because he usually doesn't make those dumb comments

i think that goObama08 made the comment about ls600h competing with rolls and bentley when all jeremy said was that it rode like a phantom

i think the best thing to do is ignore their dumb comments and move on they wont likely change so arguing with them is not going to get you anywhere. It will just make you angrier.

i read your answer to my first post in this article and i agree with you when you say that Lexus are not properly adapted to different markets and that is because they were designed for Americans. Lexus has just recently launched itself as a global competitor so you can't blame them for not being adapted to certain markets when they grow they will adapt. the germans have had much more time and therfore are properly adapted for many markets.

Demand in countries like India is still high even though they do not openly sell the cars there. They do some have global demand but are held back by not being adapted to many markets.

Lexus cars don't look good. Period. -Rosko

And you say Lexus leads in technology? What technology? Lexus takes existing ideas and improves upon them. They take no risks because they're just a bunch of copy cat "female cats" that overhype the crap they produce. -Rosko

Lexus isn't a man, they're more like men who like other men. ;) -Rosko

No. People actually aspire to own a European car, unlike your POS Toyota/Lexus, which simply sells because of value. Give the average man on the street a choice and he'd pick a European car without thinking twice. -Rosko

Contradiction?????

I think so

If you want to slam, accept others slamming, whatever their reasons are. If you cannot tolerate others slamming, then you have no right to slam anything. But the best is to learn to ignore useless comments. Who cares? There are much better things in life than this site!

it doesnt.

this is such old news. everyone knows the gt2 car was canned. the lexus magazine had a couple specials showcasing the behind-the-scenes making of the vehicle. unless this is some childish "fooled you" by lexus, the is350 gt2 will never race.
