Does Cadillac Place Lexus In The Crosshairs With The Provoq?

GM seized the spotlight at a technology conference this week to show off a hydrogen- and battery-powered Cadillac concept car designed to run up to 100 miles per hour while emitting only water vapor.

Executives said the Cadillac Provoq fuel-cell concept vehicle showed GM is serious about challenging Toyota and its Lexus luxury brand for sales to the growing number of wealthy buyers looking to make an environmental statement on the road.

"We think we'll be able to take back some of the ground that Toyota owns today," said Cadillac general manager Jim Taylor, part of a team of GM executives who unveiled the Provoq concept outside of the established circuit of auto trade shows.

Its a step in the right direction. Lexus SUVs do not impress me at all and I believe Cadillac is targeting the entire Mid-size SUV Luxury segment (X3, MB M, etc...).

Lexus does not impress me either. I bang my head on the roof getting into the RX because the front passenger seat lacks proper height adjustment. Also, the cheap steel spare wheel of the RX is tucked under the vehicle where it picks up all the winter mud and salt -- it used to be a matching alloy wheel in a proper wheel well inside the vehicle. I guess Lexus needs the money it saved with that stupid move.

Hopefully one day people will realize that we simply don't have the infrastructure to support hydrogen powered vehicles.

Stylewise, that SUV looks great...as far as SUVs go anyway.
