Nissan to unveil redesgined Maxima at the 2008 NYIAS

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Bring back the 6 speed manual! I would love to see the 4DSC return. My 2000 Maxima with a 5 speed manual was ever bit as fun as my 6 speed G35 I have today.

The Maxima is a car that I will always love, My 98 was totaled just last month and I have owned 3 other Maximas in my lifetime. Unfortunately, the Maxima is just not the 4DSC it used to be, my 93 SE was just a blast to drive in any situation. It was faster, handled better, and was roomier than anything close to its price range, my 98 less so, but still a really good car. I would love a 6 speed manual or DSG type gearbox with AWD to bring back the spirit of the 4DSC, BUT everything points to the 7th gen becoming and even larger car with a CVT and no more manual tranny which they got rid of in 05 I think. It breaks my heart to see it, but I understand Nissan not wanting to infringe on Infiniti's market and an AWD Maxima with DSG would do just that, it would probably cost well over 40K as well. Please, Please, Please Make it more attractive this time:

- Smaller/Better Proportion Hind Quarters

- Less Bulbous Overall Shape

- More Mature/Refined Interior

FWD and excess of 300hp? What are you talking about.
280 is max it can go or else it will not be driveable.

nissan always makes a strong showing at the NYAS,Maxima are great cars for the money, im sure nissan knows what they are doing.

I seriously doubt they will bring back the 6 speed manual for their top of the line Luxury sedan.They need to separate it more from the Altima. The 2 cars are too close in size and performance. What they need to do is offer it with AWD and 20 30 more HP.Car is meant to compete with the Toyota Avalon and Lexus ES350.

I'm thinking its power and the AWD are gonna be based off the current M series.

What are you a freakin' engineer? I'm sure they could adapt the system for FWD if they need to. THEY are engineers. You just read press releases and car reviews.

If the new Maxima shows without a 6-speed stick with clutch, are there any people here who'll join me in a class action suit against Nissan? The current boat carrying the maxima name must be EXPUNGED from the 4DSC annals forever! and ever...

mini22- the maxima is NOT meant to compete with the Avalon/ Azera// LexES350!! I hope the 2 exclamations underline my point. Its what some brainless bean counters decided the Maxima should start doing.
The Maxima- for the longest time- was the ONLY high performance, 6 cylinder, 6-speed front driver with a legit claim to being a sports sedan. For a bloat barge in the Avalon class, Nissan should have floated a totally separate nameplate.

Bring back the 4-place seating option.

Left Door Ajar. Right Door Open. Fuel Level Low. Bring back the sexy talking lady from my '85 joint, that stiff as hell clutch pedal and the baseball bat sized shifter. And don't forget the 3 way suspension damping toggle on the console (Soft,Normal & Firm), which seems to be only offered on the GT-R. And lust for the days without VDM, VSC or the throttle gremlin.

With the terrific Atlima and the brillant G35, is the Maxima relevent.

My 85 Maxima may have been a POS with 160hp, but I do recall that the 5spd went from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and had no problem reaching and passing the 125mph top speed listed on the speedo. Now cars get more ponies, but also more weight.

But that's the end of that story. After 10 years of abuse the servos on the adjustable shocks blew out and the rack and pinion went to slop. Donated it for the tax savings.

That would be the 190HP SE

The Maxima has regressed to the point that the Altima is far more fun.

Loved the 93 Maxima SE with the 190 hp engine. That was a great car. The perfect size and great power. It was the 4dsc.

95-99 cars are great. Front look good but the back gotta go. I just plug in a y-pipe and everything is good!

I used to own an '02 Maxima SE. I loved it!!! I then traded it in for an '07 G35, which I think is awesome. But I still mis my old Max. I wish I could've kept both.
I agree with some of you about the Altima hurting Maxima sales. They are too similar. I hope Nissan does something about that. And also, PLEASE bring us the 4DSC back. We sure miss it!!
