Detroit Auto Show: Buick Riviera Concept comes to the stateside

Buick’s Riviera concept made its North American debut today at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The two-door gullwing concept originally made its debut at China’s Auto Shanghai 2007 where it was received very positively by the public and the media.

While GM has not yet said whether the concept will inspire a production model, the automaker has said that the design of future Buick models will be heavily inspired by the Riviera. The concept also features a new hybrid system that will go into production this year at Shanghai GM, GM’s flagship joint venture with SAIC.

I can see alot of Lexus IS and Infiniti G37 design in this concept, it still very good thought.

And the questions is will they make it? and will the production be as hot as this? and how well will perform.

A PRODUCTION car such as this could very well trigger the renaissance of American car design. Instead it will merely serve to add to the frustration of every American car fan when the only thing that makes it to production is the waterfall grill. Just so sadly predictable. Makes you want to walk into GMs corporate office and slap every executive in the face. Build this car or just close up shop already.

I agree - it's taking Caddy's momentum and spreading the wealth out into the rest of the GM brands.... If they can keep the production version close to the proto..like they did with the Enclave... it should be a good competitor to the import coupes dominating the segment...

Well-The CTS coupe is a step in the right direction if you guys have not already seen it.Ed Wellborn says it will be built. I think it's quite attractive in a "Batman" sort of way.
