2009 Ford F150 vs Toyota Tundra: Preliminary Comparison

The new F150 does not need to be more powerful than the Tundra to get it's sales just like the new camry does not need to be more powerful than the accord to sell more this year. It's about sales and profit, don't forget it a business not a beauty or power contest. Did you know that even the 2009 dodge ram has more horse power than the Tundra. Soon 400 horses might be the price of admission into this class.

Oh yeah, Toyota sure did outsource a lot of business to the USA didn't they?

no America stabbed us in the back by building cheaply made pos garbage with outdated engines and chassis, poor quality and cheap interior and electronic. meanwhile since the early 80's japs built cars 10 times better, 10 times more reliable 10 times better interior and electronics, and 10 times better chassis etc, and even though we weren't buying them at first they didnt crap on us, they continued making great practical reliable cars and it payed off. I will not buy a cheap american piece of crap. Period. they are nothing more than a gimmick to fool us into believing that they make better cars. Meanwhile we give all the europeans and australians our best and give our own people that support Ford and GM the garbage. everyone else gets better fords and GM than us. think about that. in their minds were dumb enough for them not to have to worry about that. all they are doing is scamming us. why should i support a company in my own country that $hits on us and gives us outdated crap and gives everyone else the good stuff. thats like your parents giving the neighbor a car for graduation and giving their own kid a bicycle.

I do agree that Japanese workers are more loyal to their company than some US workers. Everyone knows that Toyota uses Ford for their truck benchmarks and looked very similar for years. Tundra has a very good top end engine, but bad MPG.

There has to be a little give and take. Descent power with good MPG will win over balls to the wall power and Ferrari like mileage.

As basic models the Ford is a better truck. When all decked out the Tundra wins. My taste favors the F-150 interior and the 5.7L Tundra engine is nice but there are allot of reports of engine knocking so there may be a recall in the future and MPG is not that great. With direct injection Ford's 5.4L could be much improved with better mileage.

The new Tundra is still a much improved truck over in predecessor. Interesting enough the new GMC and 2009 Dodge Ram look similar to the last generation F-250. The the new Dodge appears to have aggressive good looks.

As usual the Tundra fan boys are scared to death by the new F-150. The interior of the F-150 beats the Tundra by miles, ultimately since the Tundra's interior is full of plastic. The F-150's engine has a good amount of power and torque yet still does better with the mpg. The engine is already more reliable and than the Tundra which seems to have an endless amount of recalls, and in terms of looks the F-150 is top. The F-150 is going to win due to the many little touches, good reliability, decent amount of power, better box frame, and mpg.

OK, you can't pull a "comparison" article from a Toyota fanboy website. From the the first word they typed they had their clear cut winner. Lets just wait for a REAL comparison test from professionals that have much more neutral opinion on the matter.

Ford has nothing to worry aboout when it comes to the Tundra. Toyota doesnt even sell half as much F-150's as Ford does. The new F-150 has great looks inside and out all they really should consider doing is giving it more horsepower. I read that for the '09 version of the 5.4L will have somewhere around 310hp. hey but then again if something isnt broke then dont fix it.

Ford really has nothing to worry about with toyota. My friend works at a toyota dealership and he said the sales are dead! I owned an F150 and my friend said he admits the F150 is above and beyond better than the tundra. Its too japanamition.

Ask any real truck guy, they will give you the scoop.

Around here in Orange County, Ca I've noticed a lot of Hispanic guys driving Tundra's.

Teh ford is slow and is filled with dheap hard plastic. I have driven them both and I honestly can say the tundra was better performing and interior actually felt more upscale. the ford only matches the tundra in full dress like the king ranch trim. take two that are average equipped and the ford suddenly is cheap cold and feels alot like a basement full of hard hollow plastic. the 4.7 felt every bit as quick as the 5.4 and the toys 5.7 flat out destroyed the ford 5.4. overall I think the titan is the best value, because there is no wimpy base v6. a stripped titan will still have the 5.6 317hp v8. so I feel that the titan is simply the best value.

If anyone here had actually read our comparison, as well as the comparison between the Tundra and the 07' F150, you'd find that we're pretty supportive of the Ford product. After all, who did Toyota copy when they decided to design a full-size?

The point we're trying to make here is that Ford doesn't seem to have done anything to overcome Toyota's current competitive advantages. Considering the shrinking truck market, Ford ignores the Tundra at its peril.

I Agree with jt the ford still remains to be the best truck ou there but nobody seems to be giving it enough recognition, and why is nobody paying attention to the fact that the Tundra is only being compared to the F150 Not anything bigger such as, say "real trucks" such as the the F250 or F350. SO the Tundra would not even compare to a "real Truck"

THE REASON THE TUNDRA IS ONLY BEING COMPARED W/ THE F150 AND THE 1500'S IS BE/C THATS WHAT IT IS. DOES IT SAY TUNDRA 250 OR 2500?
