Cadillac's new Coupe arriving in '09

The coupe version of the Cadillac CTS, shown as a concept car at the recent NAIAS, has been confirmed to start production in June 2009. At the time it goes for sale as a 2010 model, the price tag should be lower than the current XLR roadster’s price tag, making it the cheapest two-door in Caddy’s lineup. The most logical nameplate for the car is CTC, but anything like CTS Coupe, CTS-C or even the CT name of the concept may end up glued on the decklid.

Fortunately, the basic fastback shape and sharp lines of the concept are said to remain unchanged, so the front end, fenders, exhaust and rear spoiler will only get minor revisions in the final production model. As Cadillac is one of the few GM brands with a single design theme, fans of the Detroit steel around the world will be certainly glad of this reincarnation of the personal luxury car.

Before the CTS came along, the Escalade was the best thing Cadillac had going. In fact, the Escalade outsold the first generation CTS - it was Cadillac's best seller. It still sells well. It's still the best looking truck in its class.

Cadillac needs the Escalade. As the largest, most powerful, and most luxurious model in the lineup, it's really the true successor to the glorious Cadillacs of old.

So according to your logic, Cadillac should sell one model? (Get rid of Escalade, DTS, and STS - that's everything they make)

Cadillac shouldn't drop the Escalade. If you recall correctly, it's all of that Escalade money that they made that paid for the development of this great new CTS.

The confirmation of CTC (Catera Touring Coupe) as a production vehicle is just another indication that the U.S. (in particular GM/Cadillac) is very serious about recapturing some of their former glory as Standard of The World...

NO, Cadillac is not litterally going to call this vehcile the Catera Touring Coupe, but in case you didn't already kknow, this is how things work in their (current sedan) naming scheme:

CTS = Catera Touring Sedan

DTS = DeVille Touring Sedan

STS = SeVille Touring Sedan

Note: Try not to read too much into it.

WE KNOW they are different cars. The point is, CTS still stands for "Catera..."

Nobody buying these things thinks it's still called the "Catera Touring Sedan," (obviously you didn't either) so yes, they have successfully "distanced" themselves from that nameplate.

The Escalade is not a problem for Caddy! Some folks have issues with buying demograpic of this vehicle, but truth be told, it sells for Caddy and GM at a high price point. Another story is the STS and DTS.

No one that buys Escalades has a problem with the buying demographic. Truth be told, even though the problem demographic (black rappers and athletes) popularized the Escalade, it's actually white business guys that buy the majority of them

i read that in Businessweek. Even though the rappers and athletes are the most visible, and the people that made the car 'cool', it's actually middle aged white men that purchase the majority of Cadillac Escalades.

It would be nice (for me, at least) to think that you could run a car company that sells to young black guys, but the truth is that there just aren't that many rich negroes to support an entire car company. There just arent' that many athletes and rappers. There's just a few rich blacks that make it look good. White people spend the big money and make it economically viable.

Same goes for any other product that people like to associate with hip hop or black culture (the NBA, Hip-Hop music itself, Nikes, etc.) Black people make it look cool, but white people actually spend the big money.

You're right. They should combine the STS/DTS concept into one large RWD sedan. Maybe with short and long wheelbase versions available.

I really like the CTS, but it is just a bit smaller than a car i could see myself driving. There should be another Cadillac with all of the great style and performance of the CTS, but bigger.

OMG....caddy is doing big things again, nice, i like it
also, good point pushrod, but most of the kids and grown fools, stay on the internet or watch mtv all day so they think "rappers and athletes" are the only ones driving those, WRONG. maybe if they go outside or a hot nite club, most of those "rappers and athletes" pulls up in R Rovers, here in NYC i see mostly old white men behind the wheel, FACT...lol,
