Even though Honda has confirmed the next-generation Acura NSX for 2010, Acura designers still can’t decide on the look for the successor of the iconic sports car.

“All of the designers are working together on the NSX, but they can’t agree on the styling,” Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., said at the Detroit auto show. Colliver said that the design of the next NSX is very critical for it to compete in the high-end sports car segment, with domestic competitors being the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus IS-F.

Judging by the recent vehicles coming from Honda (Pilot, Accord), it will not be pretty. The first NSX was beautiful and I just pray that this one exceeds our expectations.

What's with the designers at Honda nowadays?

Just give me an 500hp MR revving to 8500 rpm and priced under $75,000. Save the weight of AWD for stupid AUDI.

No, I disagree, it should be AWD. An R8 competitor would make the most sense. Obviously, they weren't stupid in producing that car with AWD.

W/ 500hp, this car will be competing w/ R8 RS, if that's what eventually will be called.

Kudos to AUDI for coming up w/ R8, if only they can at least release alternative RWD version.

A lot of people like the exterior of the accord,we can't even keep up with order.Bmw has been making the same exterior for more than 15 years,they look good to u,they have electical,tranny problems with the 5 and 7 series,they copy honda SH-AWD/vtm-4...

Honda had the perfect 'next gen' NSX template with the HSC, but stat on it for far too long. Now Toyota/Lexus has seriously upped the ante (with the LF-A concepts), both from an aesthetic and engineering standpoint, and Honda/Acura appear to be left with little or no ideas...

Acura was the 1st real stab as Japanese luxury vehicle manufacturer in the U.S., and still makes some pretty nice vehicles, but the competition has moved very swiftly in other directions, while Honda has basically treaded water.

If they keep this up, I don't see any reason for them to even stick around.

The original NSX's (New Sportscar eXperimental) styling was inspired by F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighter.

It was the showcase of then Honda's forthcoming VTEC technology. Helped by race-bred components such as lightweight titanium connecting rods- A first for a road car. Also NSX's all aluminium monocoque body was a production-car first.

It's a legendary car.

And i have no doubt the successor of NSX will be as grand and like original NSX, will rival Ferraris and Porsches.

Why so many deboosts? It's the truth. The original NSX was great, it brought true supercar looks, presence, and performance to a new price bracket with a new level of refinement.

But it had a 290 horsepower V6. If you think that could keep up with a Ferrari, then you are a fool.

In the 1990 when the NSX was launched the motoring jounalists from around the world tested it side by side with Ferrari 328 and Porsche 911.

and it won many of the camparasions.

New will be no different and most probably will challenge the Ferraris, Porsches and GT-Rs of the world.

Having better the similar or better performance figure does not mean it competes against the car. I have a friend that owns our local Ferrari dealership and I can tell the NSX and Ferrari was never crossed shopped. Ferrari is not like any other car line, their customer are extremely loyal to the brand. In addition the Ferrari mystique plays a huge part in the purchase of the car.

Buying a Ferrari is more like buying a work of art than a car.

The reason why Ferrari and Porsche had to up the quality was because of the impact the NSX made in the exotic car industry. The NSX is indeed a legend.

The mistake Acura/Honda made was they left the NSX alone. While the other guys zeroed in and made the updates and changes needed to compete, Acura/Honda just left the NSX alone and it lost it's upper-hand..

mention "NSX" to anyone at Ferrari who was there when it came out and they'll remember the car that woke them up to quality and technology. The NSX had superior quality and tech (featured weight saving alum. panels, VTEC, and etc..).

But that was back then. As I mentioned above, Ferrari wasted no time in developing better cars while Acura/Honda did nothing. Today there is no comparison, but back then yes.

Back the to quote my like Ferrari Dealer when we looked that at the NSX "whats with the plastic headliner". The were impressed with the performance, but not with the quality, cheap plastic bits -vs- Italian leather is not a contest. I was in the premium car industry back then I can tell you our Ferrari dealer never lost a sell to the NSX.

You do mention a valid point, Honda does let their sports cars die on the vine, the NSX was left unimproved and slowly became obsolete, I see the
same thing happing with S2000.

If the new NSX is another FR like the GT-R, it will be a failure because
- it will be late to the market
- it will have to compete in numbers (performances and price)
Instead, Acura should continue to make NSX a MR like the gen-1 NSX (i.e. the HSC). Instead of 3.2L V6, it will have a V10.
Imagine a MR V10 with aluminum body that weighs in at 3200lb with 500+hp! SH-AWD optional.

This is so pathetic. Who is in charge of the NSX project? Someone needs to be fired. In addition, this car shouldn't even be called the NSX at this point; it's strayed way too far from the original concept of the original NSX.
