Redesigned Acura TSX to go diesel in 2009

Personally, if Acura is serious about being a luxury vehicle manufacturer, I feel that the TSX (idea/concept) should be dropped entirely.

It was never more than a 'badge engineered' JDM Accord anyway, and it's high time that Acura either became a true player in the Japanese luxury game (that they actually created back in 1986), or left things to those manufacturers more serious about competing.

I'm not saying that the TSX is a bad vehicle, but in on way, shape or from is it a true competitor to the entry-level vehicles from the more formidable luxury manufactures.

The days of FWD, Torque-less and over-dressed Accords have long passed.

... Use that diesel in a more worthy platform.

Let's hold our criticism for take two on the TSX. The reason they came out with the TSX in the first place was to fill the 28k-33k range since the TL was bumped up to the 34-40k range.

Now what they could have done is do what the other guys do -just put a weaker engine in there (IS250, C300, and 328i). Honestly, in my opinion, I would prefer that, but who knows this new TSX might justify its existence..

Where have you been lately? You must be an Amish or something to either not keeping upto date or just plain ignorant! Hybrid is growing fasterthan even I had imagined and accepted by almost every car makers around the world and growing fast. Having said this, I feel disel has nothing on hybrid and hybrid has everything more positive over the diesel, any way you look at it.

I like Honda's overall direction:
- hybrid for small vehicles: on which hybrid system can show more MPG gain
- clean diesel engine for larger vehicles: on which hybrid system really only show very small gain in real world usage.

Toyota, on the other hand, is betting all its eggs on hybrids. Risky if you ask me.

Hybrids are selling well because the clean diesel systems are not yet available. The real competition begins when clean diesels are available in CA and some 11 states with tighter emission control.

The future world will not rely one energy source, but many sources.

The TSX has been a runaway hit. Any car that ends up selling twice what they originally intended is easily considered a success. I'm sure gen 2 will be just as huge.

Now, hopefully they'll get the next gen RL right.

While this is a great idea.... it is probably also a very good bet that the car will continue to look like a big civic. I doubt honda has the courage to create a car that actually looks unique. If they actually brought a concept type look to market ....they would become number one in a year. Are you listening honda?

Never mind, the only people with any guts when it comes to bringing concept to the actual design are the Italians. Too bad they have not figured out quality at a reasonable cost.

Yeah I feel you on that, If Honda/Acura have the guts to bring the S4 concept to life has the next TSX with some good engine option that car will be a hit and out sold everything in it’s class

The TSX has been a hit since introduction almost a cult-like following. I am very eager to see the 09 and the diesel.

um, no, not really. I see lots of men driving them.

The TSX is not a chick car. Here's the lowdown on what is going on at Acura. The TSX is going through a body change this spring with an upgraded 4 cyl producing somewhere around 230-240hp FWD. Following that will be an AWD 6 cyl. producing somewhere in the 260-280 hp range. The car is going to be bigger than the current generation. With that said, Acura insiders think that there is going to be a performance moniker wearing the TYPE-S badges across the board (TL, TSX AND RL). The TL and TSX will both have AWD versions (presumably wearing TYPE-S). The new TSX will land first this spring/summer. The new TL will be this October/November. Also slated for this year is a redesigned RL. Not a full re-design, but a very significant redesign none the less. Only 2 body panels remain from the existing RL with an additional 25hp directed to the Rear Wheels of the AWD system. A lot is riding on these 3 cars from Acura, especially the TL. Hopefully with a TYPE-S moniker making the way into the entire line-up, Acura is preparing to take a huge step forward and allow their engineers (no one can argue that Acura/Honda have world-class engineers) have free rain to produces some stellar products.
